The Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid hypercar is one fantastic piece of engineering. Many would dare you to dispute that. However, the 911 Turbo S is no slouch either, and on top of it all, it looks a lot more modern with sleeker and sexier curves. So, seeing them go head-to-head on a quarter-mile strip of tarmac is rarely seen on screens across the world. Luckily, today, we're witnessing just that.
First up, we have the Porsche 918 Spyder hypercar that was first revealed as a concept in 2010 at the Geneva Motor Show. It wasn't until 2013 at the Frankfurt Motor Show that the 918 was shown in its final form.

Being a hybrid, it had a twin-turbo V8 and two electric motors. The total output for this AWD beauty was almost 874 horsepower (887 ps), able to hit 60 mph in 2.4 seconds or 100 kph in 2.6 seconds. The torque was also substantial, outputting 944 ft-lb or 1,280 Nm.

For better or worse, this model was only produced between 2013-2015 in limited quantity, which made its price soar sky-high. This particular model from the UK is now $1,745,100 or £1,400,000. Mat Watson from the "carwow" YouTube channel is driving it.

We have Jamie from "Officially Gassed" on his left in a modified 911 Turbo S. In contrast, the 911 Turbo S base model starts from just $230,400, which is comically cheaper.

This is no ordinary 911 Turbo because it underwent many modifications like the CSF Intercooler, methanol injection kit, titanium full exhaust, ECU, and TCU PDK calibration. It has a 3.8-liter 6-cylinder, 8-speed gearbox, and 4-wheel drive system.

Typically, this can output 641 hp or 650 ps with 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. But this beast has upped those figures and can deliver up to 875 hp (888 ps) with 737 lb-ft or 1,000 Nm of torque. It's also slightly lighter than the hypercar.

Now it's finally time for the main event, the 1/4-mile drag race. During the first try, the 918 Spyder hypercar launched first off the line and beat the 911 Turbo S to the finish line. According to Jaime, the 911 was acting funny, and they redid the 1st attempt.

Jamie wasn't kidding around because as soon as the starting flag went down, he took off like a bat out of hell and even beat the hypercar.

After Mat was humiliated, they went for two more rounds, but the result was the same each time: the 911 Turbo S won every race. Its fastest time was 9.7 seconds, while the 918 Spyder quickest time was 9.9 seconds.

A couple of roll races later, nothing changed, no matter how hard Mat tried. To add insult to injury, the 918 even lost the break test.
