About a week ago, I shed light on a rendering project that sought to inspire VW Beetle lovers worldwide. I'm talking about a project from Aldekas Studio from several years ago. However, the real world quickly caught on to the fact that something like this was possible because numerous shops and craftsmen around the world brought such quirky machines to life.
One such craftsman or shop that's made a name for itself specializing in crafted zippy Volkspods is none other than Turkey's own Guney Garage, a project started by one @ferdi_g.n.y on Instagram. More importantly, his first posts with this idea taking shape go as far back as 2020.

Four years and several moments in the spotlight later and Guney Garage is on an entirely different level when it comes to custom and personalized Vokspods, or as they call them, their Wos-Car, which, as we can see, comes across as the most accurate representation of Aldekas' rendering. I'm not saying the two have any business with one another, but the resemblance is uncanny, to say the least.

Now, if you're not up to date with what a Volkspod may be or how they come to life, there's one of two ways you can go about things. The classic and most often encountered method is by ripping off the fenders from a classic Beetle, cutting them in half, and welding the opposing sides to create a single fender body that also incorporated the BEetle headlight into it. The second way is to simply craft your own body from sheets of metal, which is bound to be tedious work and much harder to get right. After all, there's only one real VW Beetle fender look.

That brings me to the very first posts found on Guney's Instagram page, which give us an inside look at the first machine to start it all for this shop, that white-bodied and red-framed lower mower motor with wheels. But, as things progressed, so did Guney's works.

The next centerpiece to take shape is the green and red Wos Car we see in the image gallery. Why shed light on this model? Well, it remains the base model with which Guney now wows the world. Not only is the red and green blend absolutely stunning, reminiscent of what you might see in Mario Kart, but it elevated all other Volkspod designs before and after it.

Not only do the larger rear wheels give off a slight Baja racer look, but the chromed-out, twin dual exhaust pipes only just take this thing to the next level. Did you also notice the motor cap? We can see the VW logo as plain as day, just in case you have any doubts as to what you're looking at. The remainder of the Wos Car, no matter which one, is completed with a leather saddle, BMX handlebars, rearview mirrors, and I'm guessing throttle because there are no pedals whatsoever on their bad boys.

Moving up the Guney works, not only are the looks beginning to really stand out - that gloss matte purple machine is sick! - but Guney also starts messing around with the motor these babies are rocking. For example, it looks like the ability to shift gears and tap into more power and speed a continuously variable transmission started to be seen, not to mention turbos.

By now, I'm sure you can understand why these little babies come with such a cult following; after all, just look at them! Best of all, they are fully functional, too, and owners can really take theirs out for spins during the weekends or any day of the week. This brings me to my next point: I want one, and chances are that if you're reading this already, you do too.

So where to now? Well, you can do exactly as Guney Garage and countless other craftsmen and women around the world and build your own. If you need some help, check out the article I did on HennyButabi's version, where we see the entire process of bringing an electric Volkspod to life. Sure, it's not a replica of what Guney is showing us, but it'll give you a solid base with which to work.

The second route you can take things is to simply approach one of the garages worldwide crafting these dorky and lovable hunks of Beetle-inspired love. If you can't find any in your country, don't be afraid to give a shout-out to Guney.

The third way is to take this to that friend of yours with the tools necessary to bend steel pipes and sheets and add a turbo to what is essentially a lawnmower or moped motor. Pay the man or woman and see your baby come to life before your very eyes. When you're done, I can assure you that the first ride around the block is bound to bring in some customers. Maybe you're the next Guney Garage.
