It's fun to watch how some people try to increase the appeal of the items they plan to sell by resorting to all sorts of tricks and gimmicks. Like throwing in an extra something next to the main product.
If you've been following what's happening in the world of strange vehicles, then you know there's a movement in this world constructing scooters out of Volkswagen Beetle fenders.

There are several crews and people doing this, the most famous of them all being someone named Brent Walter. His minibikes are all 6.5 horsepower two-wheeled machines capable of decent speeds and characterized by the Beetle fender that wraps around the frame to create a cockroach-like contraption.

Walter calls his creations Volkspods. It's not entirely clear if the ride we have here is a Volkspod, but it sure looks as insane as one.

Meant for adult use, this scooter is powered by a 223cc engine that spins go-kart wheels. The Beetle fender, made of fiberglass, is painted in a color that makes it look even more like the insect mentioned earlier. For some reason, the shell of the scooter wears Harley-Davidson branding, and that makes it stranger still.

The scooter does not sell as is, but as a bonus treat for whoever purchases the Volkswagen Type 2 it's perched on top of. It's a restored-customized bus with only the cockpit remaining and a long bed at both ends.

The VW, wearing the same H-D branding, is powered by a 1,900cc four-cylinder engine rocking dual carburetors and a four-speed transmission. Modifications have been made to the suspension system as well, to make it adjustable, and chrome bumpers fitted front and rear. They are a perfect match for the 17-inch wheels installed front and rear.

The interior is custom as well, with the red material on the seats, door panels, and floor shielded from the elements by new windows. A multimedia kit with Bluetooth compatibility has been included as a touch of modernity, although it's a sort of gear made a decade ago.

We stumbled upon the Volkswagen Type 2 - Harley-Davidson Beetle fender scooter duo on the lot of vehicles auction house Mecum will be sending under the hammer at the end of this week in Kissimmee, Florida.

There is no mention made as to how much the pair is expected to fetch, and there seems to be a reserve for the two.

Impressive as it is on its own, for a vehicle playing in this category, the Volkswagen Type 2 definitely gets a boost of cool thanks to the scooter placed on the bed. Especially because it's branded Harley-Davidson, and also flaunts a miniature American flag.

We'll come back on this story to update with the selling price as soon as the hammer falls.
