I recently attended an automotive event called Saisho Fest, centered around modified Japanese cars. I was happy to notice that the DJ played several songs from the Fast & Furious and Need for Speed series throughout the event. I grew up with that music, and it felt more than fitting to listen to Saliva's Superstar while getting ready for a 20-minute track session in my FC RX-7.
Yes, The Fast and The Furious has greatly influenced my life. So, whenever Mattel comes up with a new hero car replica, I must add it to my collection. And it's all even more appealing if we're talking about a premium collectible. Although I'll focus today on the newest Mix of Fast and Furious cars, there's also a hint of an upcoming Team Transport model.

Paul Walker drove a Mitsubishi Eclipse and a Toyota Supra in the first installment of the series, but he switched to a Nissan Skyline for the second movie. The new Team Transport model pays tribute to that vehicle, albeit with an updated Liberty Walk body kit. The LB-ER34 Super Silhouette Nissan Skyline casting has been around since 2022.

Mark Jones designed it for its Mountain Drifters release, and you'll find five variations on the market. While the Chase version can cost $200 or more, the Team Transport is less expensive. And some collectors might agree that it's the most exciting one so far. But let's focus on Mix 4 of the Fast and Furious Premium series for 2023. Mix 3 delivered two exciting vehicles: Mia's Acura Integra Sedan GSR and Vince's 1999 Nissan Maxima.

Toyota Supra

But neither of those two models can compete with the mighty Toyota Supra. In the age of YouTube, kids are really into these cars, and most think they're factory-tuned to shoot flames and gap supercars. Supras are becoming prohibitively expensive; even diecast versions can also have ridiculous prices attached to them. Jun Imai designed this casting over a decade ago, and 23 variations of it are already going around.

Mattel has released a replica of Paul Walker's car before, and collectors were eager to see some new ideas. A while ago, we saw a Nissan Skyline GT-R with the orange livery borrowed from the Supra. People went crazy about it, but it received mixed reviews. And it foreshadowed the appearance of a reverse design: a Toyota Supra with the Skyline livery. The result is impressive, and fans of the Japanese icon will gobble it right up. Of course, I'm not happy with the wheel color, but you can always swap them out if you're into custom diecast tuning.

Land Rover Defender 110

If someone asks you to name a cool car from the Fast and the Furious series, will you ever think about the Land Rover Defender 110? If you're like me and stopped watching after Tokyo Drift, you might not even remember seeing it in the series. But for diversity and marketing, Mattel decided to use this casting for Mix 4. And it's not undesirable.

Mark Jones designed it for its 2019 release; we have only seen seven iterations. The Period Correct edition is the most difficult to find and will likely cost you over $100. We're talking about a Premium-exclusive casting, which we've only ever seen rolling on Real Riders 8-Dot wheels. The design is similar to the 2021 Car Culture: British Horsepower model and most collectors might prefer the Bilstein design instead.

1970 Chevrolet Nova SS

The 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS was also part of F9, and some might say that the only memorable part about that movie was that it featured Charlize Theron. The casting appeared around the same time as the movie, and its previous two releases paid tribute to the film. That also means you'll need help finding any differences between them. But new collectors will be okay with this being a repeat, as they can purchase it at retail value instead of paying extra. The only question I have now is: When will this casting make it to Car Culture with a new livery and wheels on?

1991 BMW M5

The mighty BMW M5 has been around for almost 40 years now. In that period, the German manufacturer built six different generations. It all started with the E28 M5 in the '80s, and you can now buy a brand-new F90 M5. So you'd think that Mattel has had the line-up covered by now. But they're just getting warmed up. It launched the E39 M5 in 2022, and now we're getting a taste of the '90s E34 generation of the sports sedan. That's right, this is a brand-new casting, and it looks phenomenal!

If you're a big fan of the "family" action movie, you'll know that this car appeared in Fast X. Is it ever going to be as iconic as the Supra or Skyline? Not likely, but that's beside the point. Mattel nailed it with 10-spoke rims, and this could be one of the best castings all year! This is bound to be the beginning of the E34 M5, and we will probably see a different color variation within the next few months. The question is, how long before we can get a replica of the V10-powered E60 M5?

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera

Last but not least, Mix 4 also contains a supercar. Paying tribute to Fast X again, the Gallardo has a certain Super Treasure Hunt vibe, given the Polished Gold finish. Mattel first used the casting in 2011, and there are only a few premium iterations on the market. The new version could've looked better with different wheels, but you can enjoy the BMW M5 E34 if that's your preferred style.

With the arrival of this new design, a deep dive into Hot Wheels Lamborghinis is in order. So stick around for more information on that soon. Until then, we also need to be patient about the release of the Hot Wheels Fast and Furious Mix 4, which should arrive in stores within the next few weeks.
