To quote Bender from Futurama, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged looks like "fun on the bun!" It has style, graphics, and a long-lost childhood remembrance atmosphere with a touch of bitter-sweetness. From everything shown so far, it looks like a promising follow-up to 2021's first iteration of Hot Wheels Unleashed. As we approach the October 19, 2023 release date, more and more info is surfacing. So, let's see what Unleashed 2 has in store for us.
The first thing that hits home when you look at the newest gameplay trailer is the map with the giant T-Rex. It simply emanates childhood vibes from when you were a rugrat yourself and thought dinosaurs were the coolest thing in the world.

The entire magic of the game stems from that Toy Story-like feeling you get when you reminisce about the long-lost days when you're imagination was your world and the notion of time didn't even exist.

Nostalgia aside, the game looks like it has a game mode for every kind of racing player. Elimination, for instance, is survival 101. Vehicles in last place get eliminated, and when it's down to you and one more player, make sure you're way ahead of them.

Drift Master is another mode where everything you need to do is pretty self-explanatory. Turn corners at the right moment and hit that emergency break to slide your way to victory. It's point-based, so learn the tracks well for maximum efficiency.

Waypoint is a weird mode, but who are we to judge? Everything takes place in free-roam mode, and you need to hit the checkpoints to collect them and emerge victorious.

Grab the Gears is one of the most exciting modes yet. You'll engage in battles in arenas and try to become the ultimate champion on wheels. Hot Wheels, that is... (I couldn't help myself). The purpose is to collect these "Gear" boxes spread out across the open map, and when you have enough, bring them to the bank to rack up points.

For online-fighting addicts, we have Clash Derby. Think of it like a miniature Thunderdome with bumper cars. All you have to do is to literally crash into your opponents. The better you do, the higher your score.

The Hot Wheels Creatures Rampage Campaign has its own stylish-looking story, if you can believe that. You'll battle gigantic creatures to save the city. Don't worry, there's no actual battle at stake. You'll just break through some big chips while racing to damage a creature's health bar.

For those more artistically inclined, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 also has a track-building feature where you can let your imagination go nuts. Or you can skip all that and simply ride the tracks made by others online.

Whether you're a kid or a full-on boomer like me, this game promises to offer a bit of everything for everyone.
