There's another player in town! Fisker figured out production with its Austrian partner and is now ensuring that its early supporters get their much-awaited all-electric SUVs. But those not part of the pre-order team can now figure out exactly what they want by playing with the online configurator. We spent a good chunk of time inspecting it. Here's the outcome.
Nobody gave Fisker permission to make an SUV that looks this cool. The headlights are slim, connected by a light bar, and somehow Range Rover-esque. The sharky front end boasts a playful yet serious look, while the chunky body reveals a muscular attire.

The rear, with its short overhang, may suggest a small trunk. But there's a generous space available after the second row of seats. That's where you can store 16.8 cubic feet of cargo. The square opening and the flat floor make loading and unloading a breeze.

Admittedly, the Ocean still has that classic crossover shape. But the young automaker took it upon itself to make it stand out through various bold design approaches like the tall shoulder line. Even the roof works in this vehicle's favor because it includes solar panels in the opening sunroof. They are separated by some elegant cyan lines, which help improve the overall aesthetic.

Moreover, once inside, you can witness the vehicle harnessing the Sun's radiation to transform it into usable electricity. Fisker claims the solar roof improves range by 1,491 miles per year.

Thus, when you cross paths with an Ocean, your brain will immediately recognize that this vehicle is different.

And, yes, that's a good thing. We don't need too many lifted hatchbacks out in the wild that force car buyers to spend more without getting much in return.

Three trims, two valid choices

First thing first, let's look at the available Ocean versions. There are three trims available: Sport, Ultra, and Extreme. The Ocean Sport's cost starts from $37,499, while the Ultra is $1 short of $50,000. The Extreme variant is the most expensive – $68,999.

The Fisker Ocean Sport has a single motor on the front axle developing 275 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque, a 75-kWh usable LFP battery, and can go 250 miles on a full charge.

The Ocean Ultra and Extreme boast a 106.5-kWh usable NMC battery. However, the most expensive version (Extreme) goes 20 miles further than the Ultra – 360 miles versus 340 miles. These are all-wheel-drive units, both having a total power output of 468 hp and 514 lb-ft of torque. Turn on the boost function, and the numbers go up to 564 hp and 545 lb-ft of torque.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) hasn't published its findings regarding the range of the Ocean, but Fisker says it has simulated the agency's test conditions to get this result. Official range data comes from Europe, where the Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) shows us the following numbers:
  • Ocean Sport – 273 miles;
  • Ocean Ultra and Extreme – 440 miles.

There's quite a discrepancy between the WLTP findings and the Fisker-estimated range for US customers, so we'll have to wait for official EPA data and owner feedback before we get a clear look at just how far you can go on a full charge with this all-electric SUV.

Now, let's design the swankiest Ocean possible.

Building a dream

Since the One has been sold out for quite some time, we must go with the Extreme trim.

Next, we must pick a color. Even though 11 options are available, we have only two possible picks – the matte finish Stealth Green and Big Sur Blue. They cost $4,500 each. The former looks more intriguing, so that's our choice.

Now's the time to add the 22-inch Slipstream Black wheels made with recycled carbon fiber. They're the most expensive, so it fits our playbook. Then, we move on to the interior. Here, we must go with Sea Salt because it costs the most, but it's included in the trim's price.

There are also no extra packages to add. The Fisker Ocean Extreme includes all the things you may desire, like:
  • Boost Mode;
  • Smart Traction;
  • Front and rear heated seats;
  • Heated steering wheel and washer nozzles;
  • Remote climate control;
  • 360-degree surround camera system;
  • Safety and driver-assistance systems;
  • The revolving infotainment screen.

One major thing Fisker has done right with the Ocean is the climate control panel – big, clicky buttons (thank goodness!) are available. There's also one for volume control! And that's with a rotating humongous tablet in the middle of the front row acting like the infotainment screen. Maybe other brands like BMW or Audi would like to look at this cabin.

At this point, we're still in the sub-$80,000 range. Theoretically, our Ocean should still qualify for the EV tax credit, but there is no clear answer available right now. It most likely does not qualify under current rules, but we advise prospective buyers to talk about the EV tax credit with the brand's sales specialists before submitting an order.

Fisker rushed last year to give supporters willing to spend an extra $5,000 a binding buyer's agreement. That document guaranteed early customers the right to take advantage of the federal incentive as it worked before the Inflation Reduction Act became official.

The best Ocean Extreme is a fully-loaded Ocean Extreme

But let's go back to our pricy Ocean Extreme because we must now choose options. Unlike the One trim that came fully loaded, we have some extra things here that we are invited to pay for. Leaving nothing to chance, we select everything.

While increasing the SUV's price like money's worthless, we notice that only after adding the retractable cargo cover, the indoor car cover, the recycled floor mats, the flat&fold cargo floor, and the 20-inch wheel snow chains, and the tow hitch does the price increase above the $80,000 threshold. The last option we are invited to tick is the winter wheels.

Since the snow chains are already included in this hefty configuration, we are obligated to choose the 20-inch Extreme winter wheels with Bridgestone rubber rings on them.

After all this splurging and playing with a beautiful configurator, we have a fabulous-looking Fisker Ocean Extreme. It has everything one may need (apart from a front trunk and ventilated or cooled seats, that is). And it costs us just $85,393 before any taxes and fees. That's a deal worth considering, especially since no middlemen are involved. That means no unexpected hikes will appear out of nowhere.

Finally, it's important to remember that Fisker has just kickstarted deliveries and is preparing to flood the US with Ocean units. But ramping up production and rushing transportation takes time, especially since these SUVs come stateside from Magna Steyr's Austrian factory.
