The biggest-ever vehicle content is about to drop. Seven vehicles show up in the usual pre-update silhouette teaser, which has sparked guessing among gamers. A Tesla, a Dodge, and a classic Benz might be among the cars joining in.
Gran Turismo series producer and Polyphony Digital founder and CEO Kazunori Yamauchi has teased the big update coming for Gran Turismo 7 this week. As usual, he only teases the new vehicle content, which will be available with the update. There is no info on any other change coming, but a new track is reportedly included.

One of the seven cars teased is a big comeback that players have been asking for. It is the fan-favorite V10-powered Lexus LFA, and the Grand Turismo 7 will be its first appearance since 2013.

The Nismo 400R, a 400-horsepower variant of the R33 Skyline GT-R, which showed up in the very first game and every single subsequent title since then, is also making a comeback this November.

A car that made its Gran Turismo debut in the recent Gran Turismo movie, the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, driven by Jann Mardenborough, will also be racing in the game. That massive tail wing is unmistakable.

The back row includes three interesting interpretations of American muscle, and the second-generation Dodge Charger is one of them. The car has been in the game in three different forms. Therefore, we have yet to see which version players will be getting with the update this fall. Estimations bring the R/T 440 from 1970 in pole position.

The Dodge Challenger Demon will also join the Gran Turismo racers, where it will join the Charger Hellcat. Which one of them it is is still up for debate.

The Tesla Model 3 Performance will join Gran Turismo 7

One of the additions that might raise some eyebrows is the Tesla Model 3, sitting third from the right in the back row. The electric compact car is most likely going to be present as a Performance version. The Model 3 Performance is powered by two electric motors, capable of generating a total of 450 horsepower for an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (0-97 kph) in 3.1 seconds.

Also controversial might be the presence of the W201 Mercedes-Benz 190E, the sedan that debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 1982. But we are yet to see if we are going to deal with a four-decade old automobile or some newer variant, be it a Cosworth- or an AMG-powered unit or even the Evo II DTM. The Evo II homologation model has been in previous GT games.

There is no date announced for the update yet, but since Polyphony Digital has been favoring Thursday, games expect it to happen on November 2. Besides, Kazunori Yamauchi usually teases the updates just days before they actually go live. It has been one month since the last content update, which brought three new cars: the Garage RCR Civic, the Honda Civic Type R, and the Mazda3 Gr.4.

Gran Turismo, boosted by the movie or was it the other way around

The interest in the game must have been boosted by the Gran Turismo movie, which hit theatres this past summer. However, the film faced massive controversy for rearranging events to enhance the plot.

Based on a true story, it brought together a team of underdogs: an avid gamer from Cardiff, a former race-car driver, and an idealistic motorsport executive (interpreted by Orlando Bloom), with skin in the game. The three of them risk everything for motorsport glory.

The movie premiered at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on July 30, 2023, after the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix. It had originally been scheduled for a release on August 11, but the SAG-AFTRA strike forced the production team to change plans.

An update to Gran Turismo 7 added a livery for the Nissan Nismo GT-R, which was inspired by the movie. All players who watched the movie trailer in-game got the livery for free.

The two hours and 14 minutes packed with track action brought the production company a total of $119.3 million, with $43.8 million in the United States and Canada and $75.7 million in other territories. The film made $8.5 million on its first day in theaters.

Yet, the film faced massive backlash for using the Jann Mardensborough's crash at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, when the Nissan GT-R Nismo driven by him was airborne at the Flugplatz turn, flew over the fence and slammed into the spectators, killing one and seriously injuring several.

The crash took place after Mardensborough's debut at Le Mans, and it was pretty much as depicted in the movie. But the plot time-shifted it, placing it before the endurance race at Circuit de la Sarthe to build up the moment and frame the entire context, setting the accident as a motivational setback.
