After the so-and-so success of the Gran Turismo movie, the developers from Polyphony Digital are at it again with their frequent free updates, which bring a great new assortment of vehicles, all free on PS5 and PSVR 2. So, let's not beat around the hairpin turn and get straight to it.
The Gran Turismo movie didn't reach new heights in the movie industry, but it didn't perform poorly statistically. Sources say it cost around $60 million from paper to projector screens worldwide, making just over the $111,000,000 mark at the box office.
Almost double isn't a failure by any means, but it all depends on how much the Hollywood fat cats expected. At the end of the day, it's no Avengers: End Game to return 7-8 times on its investment.
I saw the movie with zero expectations, and the excellent writing, pacing, and production quality blew my mind. It came out of left field, and I enjoyed every minute.
Now, getting back to our neck of the tarmac, here's what Polyphony Digital has already launched for Gran Turismo 7 players, including those who play it on PSVR 2.
First, we have three new cars thrown into the mix: the Honda Civic Type R (FL5) '22, MAZDA3 Gr.4, and Garage RCR Civic.
In July 2022, Honda introduced the 6th-gen Civit Type R for the 2023 model year, igniting the competitive flame in the hot-hatch segment.
It has an inline-four 2.0-liter engine producing 311 hp or 315 ps with 310 lb-ft or 420 Nm of torque. It's FWD with an exclusive 6-speed manual transmission system. In the US, a Type R starts from $43,795.
Next, the Brand Channel has been updated with some juicy new entries, like the 2022 Toyota GR Corolla MORIZO Edition and 2021 Toyota Ambulance Himedic. A brand new Morizo would run you for $53k. It comes equipped with a 1.6-liter inline-3 engine that can deliver 300 hp (304 ps) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.
Certain drag races have put the Honda Civic Type R and Toyota GR Corolla Morizo in a 1/4-mile race, and the latter stood no chance against the Civic.
Liveries for models like the Mazda RX-VISION GT3 CONCEPT, Mazda Atenza Gr.4, and Mazda Roadster NR-A (ND) '22 also join the party.
In the World Circuits menu, you'll find brand new events to take advantage of, like Grand Valley - Highway 1/Race of Turbo Sportscars, Dragon Trail/Race of Turbo Sportscars, and Mount Panorama/World Touring Car 700.
Also of note are the Extra Menus added to the Cafe section, which now holds the Extra Menu No. 29: Collection: Porsche Supercars (Collector Level 42 and above) and the Extra Menu No. 30 Collection: GR (Collector Level 39 and above).
There is a bunch more stuff with Update 1.38, but the rest you can find on your own.
