Coming in hot after Gran Turismo's theatrical release in August, GT 7 rose to the top of the leaderboards on PlayStation 5 in the US/Canada and the European Union (EU). Also, there's an unexpected surprise on PS4 regarding the GT title, but it's not what you would expect. Grand Theft Auto isn't letting up either, dominating the charts yet again.
After a two-week delay due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood, the Gran Turismo movie was finally released in theatres. It didn't set the world on fire, but it was an excellent flick for gaming fans. Not only that, but it was good enough to stand on its own two feet, separate from the gaming industry.

Box Office-wise, it didn't perform bad, but neither did it return five times its investment. PlayStation Productions might even be content with the earnings, although no one would use "thrilling" in a meeting over there.

It's reported that the producers sank about $60 million in making Gran Turismo, and Box Office Mojo said it's on the 32nd spot this year in the Worldwide Box Office charts, earning $82,256,144 million. Domestically (US), it made just under $32 million, and in the rest of the world, $50,300,000.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie supposedly cost $100, according to Screen Rant, but the movie generated no less than $1,360,322,630. That's $1.36 billion, in case you thought it was a typo. Making over 13 times your budget is hyperbolically amazing. Not to mention the $17.99 Blu-Ray edition, $5 digital rental, and the upcoming streaming service it will land on.

Now, circling back to our neck of the track, aside from gathering the masses to the theatre, the movie had another desired effect. It rekindled the people's passion to play Gran Turismo 7 on PS5.

It rose to the Top 20 charts in the US and Canada, on the 12th spot, right behind Hogwarts Legacy on 11. In case you're curious, the top 10 in descending order are Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11 (no doubt because of the upcoming MK1 release), CoD: MW II, MLB The Show 23, FIFA 23, Remnant II, GTA V (of course), The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Armored Core VI, and Madden NFL 24.

Gran Turismo made it to the Top 10 list, at number 9 in Europe. Hogwarts Legacy is in the 8th position, followed by F1 23, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Remnant II, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, FIFA 23, and Grand Theft Auto V.

On the old and dying PS4 in the US and Canada, there's no sign of Gran Turismo, but GTA V is going strong in 6th place. Over on the European continent, GTA V is in the 4th position, with Gran Turismo Sport from 2017 in the 13th place.

Get used to it, folks. The movie business will get even busier with gaming-related titles. PlayStation Productions is already putting out heavy hitters like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Twisted Metal, and Gran Turismo, with many more planned in the future, like Horizon, God of War, Jak and Daxter, and Days Gone.

As a side note, the Naughty Dog franchise Jak and Daxter hasn't been confirmed yet, but the rumors that are going around put Tom Holland and Christ Pratt as the starring duo. Holland was also in Uncharted, and Pratt in The Super Mario Bros. movie, which is kind of creating a pattern here.
