Seventy cars sold in less than a minute. This is what Chinese car brand Wall Motor did with the Tank 700 plug-in hybrid, the most potent of the lineup so far. The company started presale during the Guangzhou Motor Show.
The Tank 700 Hi4-T seems to combine the design of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and the Land Rover Defender but with a made-in-China kind of approach. The new variant  is a plug-in hybrid body-on-frame SUV built by Great Wall Motor. The vehicle entered series production, but the first batch will only include 70 cars. All of them were sold in just 55 seconds at the Guangzhou Motor Show.

They all start at 700,000 yuan, which translates to $98,704 at the current exchange rates. The first customers should receive their 'Tanks' in February next year. The price includes five lifetime warranties, which basic maintenance, powertrain, internet-of-vehicle (IoV), as well as road rescue services being on the list.

The Chinese model is 201.3 inches (5,113 millimeters) long, 81 inches (2,061 millimeters) wide, and 76.8 inches (1,952 millimeters) tall, sporting a wheelbase of 118.1 inches (3,000 millimeters). Those figures make it way longer than the G-Class, which only measures

The new Tank 700 Hi4-T is a plug-in hybrid that eclipses everything else in the range int terms of power. It is set in motion by a 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6 engine, which generates 355 horsepower (360 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm), which operates alongside an electric motor for a total of 510 horsepower (517 PS) and 516 lb-ft (750 Nm). The system is mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

It is the carmaker's first plug-in hybrid sporting a 3.0-liter V6 engine. All other variants in the lineup come with a 2.0-liter inline-four.

The model seems to be a G-Class wannabe. It features the round LED headlamps and, at the opposite end, the spare wheel case mounted on the rear door. Yet, it sports rounded edges, unlike the G-Class, and there is a scoop up on the bonnet. It really looks like it is trying to copy what the Brabus tuning house did to the G 63, now called the Brabus 850 Widestar, and mounted an LED light bar at the front and a wing on the roof at the back, both in carbon fiber.

The vehicle rides on 22-inch wheels with a unique design and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires. Great Wall Motors has not mentioned any towing capacity, payload, or off-road capabilities, but we are yet to find out more closer to the date of delivery.

GWM launched the Tank SUV back in 2021, with the 300 variant being the first of the series, followed by the Tank 400 and Tank 500. More variants are about to arrive in the following years, according to the local media. There is no 600 to fill in the gap between the 500 and the 700.
