After the success of last year's My Ami Buggy, Citroen announced a continuation of the series that will be built in greater numbers. Destined for France, the original came in just 50 examples and was spoken for in almost 18 minutes. As for the new one, it will be made in 1,000 units, and the entire allocation for Europe, comprising 800 cars, was sold out in just ten hours earlier this week.
Citroen opened the online order books on June 20 in eight countries (France, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Luxembourg, and the United Kingdom), and most orders came from the brand's homeland. That is where 430 customers bought a My Ami Buggy in just a little over two hours. Another 65 orders were placed from Belgium in nine minutes, and one customer from Spain holds the record for the fastest purchase: 1 minute and 10 seconds.

You might be wondering what happens to the remaining 200 copies of the electric urban cruiser, and if you thought some of them might cross the Atlantic Ocean for our market, then you're mistaken. That's because they will end up at retail outlets in Turkey, Morocco, and France's overseas territories and departments this summer. Deliveries will officially commence at the beginning of September, and pricing for the new model varied from €7,790 (equal to $8,525) to €10,450 ($11,435).

Building on the Ami electric quadricycle, the My Ami Buggy has new bumpers, skid plates, a rear spoiler, black protective elements, and a khaki paint finish on the outside. It also features several yellow accents inside and out, a new instrument cluster, a small Bluetooth speaker said to be waterproof, which fits in the dashboard, and a small bag attached to the steering wheel. The doors and roof can be removed to bring more of the surrounding environment into the cockpit. Mind you, you should not venture that far into the unknown, as this is still an urban cruiser with limited range.

According to the French automaker, the My Ami Buggy has a total driving range of 46 miles (75 km). The top speed stands at 28 mph (45 kph), so it won't break any speed records. It also won't allow you to take it for a short drive on the highway. It features a 5.4 kWh battery that takes four hours to be charged, which feeds electrons to a small electric motor generating eight horsepower (8 ps/6 kW). Thus, despite the overlanding vibes sent by Citroen, the new My Ami Buggy is more of a ride aimed at the daily commute in countries where the sun shines most of the year. That said, do you wish the French car manufacturer offered it over here, too?
