MINI has several new models in the making, including the Countryman and the popular Hatch, but they're also expanding the family with a fresh member that will be known as the Aceman.
Does that name sound familiar? It's because MINI used it on a concept last year. The study was supposed to be a preview of the brand's future design language, but as it turns out, it actually offered a glimpse of the eponymous production model, which has similar proportions and retains the funky front-end design to some extent.

Sporting LED headlamps mounted rather up, hence the funky styling, the face has a closed-off grille that featured a surrounding light strip on the concept. This feature will probably not make it to the production model, which has a smaller central air intake and less aggressive side trim. The profile looks pretty much the same, and that includes the door handles, though the roofline appears to be a bit less arched at the back. This means that the headroom for rear seat passengers will be improved and that it will have a more generous trunk capacity.

Since there was no need for a license plate on the study, MINI didn't bother carving one out, and on the production model, it sits on the redesigned bumper. We can also notice the similar taillights that have a Union Jack pattern, a large spoiler piece, and a shark fin-like antenna on the roof. The smaller rear reflectors were integrated into the rear bumper on each side of the diffuser, and the wheels are different compared to the ones of the concept. Oh, don't look for any tailpipes because, as we mentioned in the title, the Aceman is a battery-electric vehicle.

Partially visible through the windows of the latest scooped prototype, which featured a very lively camouflage wrap, the interior should be very MINI-like. This means a familiar layout and a round infotainment touchscreen. It is likely that it will get the brand's new personal assistant named Spike. This feature will equip other future models from the British automaker and that probably includes the upcoming Countryman. Spike was first showcased earlier this year on the Aceman Concept.

Details surrounding the powertrain are unknown at the moment, but it has been reported that it will launch in several configurations with single and dual motors, with the latter sporting electric all-wheel drive. The platform is understood to be co-developed by BMW Group, MINI's parent company, and their Chinese partner, Great Wall. To keep the development costs in check, the same EV-dedicated construction will be used by other models, including the battery-electric variant of the upcoming MINI Hatch. The unveiling date is still unknown, though it's been rumored to premiere in 2024.
