Combining elements that don't belong together often results in entertainment with a slight touch of outrage. And that's the case with this Ford Transit Custom van, which is looking a bit like a race car that seats too many people.
Vans are like the unsung heroes of the automotive world. They get the job done with minimum fuss, often suffering from abuse and neglect. So it's nice to see an expensive-looking makeover once in a while, even though it doesn't make sense to race such a Ford.
Carlex Design has a number of other conversions for European market vehicles that other tuners ignore. Their pickup body kits are quite famous, especially the ones for the X-Class. This must be one of their first van projects, and it's got a full makeover, inside and out.
On the outside, the most noticeable part is the new bumper, which has extra intakes, a new Carlex-specific grille design, and a chin spoiler, which in this case is painted red. Calling it a Focus RS van feels like a cliche, but it really does resemble that famous hot hatch.
Fender flares have also been installed, though they are small ones. The side skirts are noticeable, pulling your eye towards the 18-inch gloss black wheels, which are wrapped in 255/45 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. Finally, the boxy Transit rear end is amplified with the help of a fake-looking diffuser, some equally fake exhaust trim, and a couple of red wings at the top.
As for the interior, it also receives the Carlex touch. The red accents on the dials, seats, and doors remind us of how the Focus RS used to have these accents in blue. The two racing buckets in the front are joined by six more sporty seats for passengers, all trimmed in black leather and Alcantara.
