Introduced a few months ago to the ranks of the Ford GT, the Heritage Edition model in Gulf Oil racing livery will soon be ready for the streets. But before any of them actually hit the road, Ford will be selling the first ever model in the series for charity.
The car wearing VIN 001 will be sold at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction on January 19, 2019, in Scottsdale, Arizona, with all the proceeds to go to United Way for Southeastern Michigan.

Deciding to sell a GT at an auction is a bold step for Ford, a company that has tried ever since the GT was reintroduced to keep a close watch of who gets one.

The model that will go under the hammer two months from now comes painted in the baby-blue-and-orange scheme originally featured on the GT40 back in late 1960s, when the model was king of the Le Mans circuit.

Back then, Ford managed to become the unchallenged king of the French endurance race thanks to the GT40, winning the race four consecutive times. The last two wins, in 1968 and 1969, were achieved by the same car, a GT40 with chassis number 1075 which became the only post-war car to win the race twice in a row.

Aside for the special paint, the Heritage Edition comes with carbon fiber A-pillars, 20-inch aluminum wheels in high-gloss dark stainless with black lug nuts, orange calipers, and silver rearview mirror caps.

At the interior, the GT comes with seats wrapped in Alcantara. The same material is used to dress the instrument panel, pillars, headliner and steering wheel, while contrasting blue and orange stitching is to be seen on the seats and steering wheel.

The buyer of this special GT will also receive a unique serialized identification plate, plus exposed matte carbon fiber door sills, air register pods, and center console.

No estimate on how much Ford expects to get for the model was made.
