The recently-launched Ford Fusion, as well as the Escape crossover have been recalled due to potential overheating concerns, which may result in an engine bay fire. The culprit is the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine, which has already been the subject of two additional recalls of the Escape.
Some 89,000 vehicles are affected, of with 15,833 are Fusions, while the remaining 73,320 are Escapes. Apparently, these engines may overheat, and burst into flames if the driver does not stop the car as soon as possible. A warning message will be displayed inside the car, reading either “Engine power reduced to lower temps” or “Engine over temp, stop safely”.
Ford has yet to announce when the affected cars will begin to be called back to the dealerships, as they have not yet finalized their solution to the problem. Also, Blue Oval officials are asking drivers to not drive their cars, until a fix is perfected, and they will be offering alternate transport free of charge.
