The 2013 Ford Escape is a brand new vehicle, only a few months old in the US marketplace, so it’s surprising to hear that issues have already arisen with the compact crossover.
But Ford has issued the first recall targeting about 10,000 units of the 2013 model year Escape, due to an issue with the fitting of the carpet padding, which could interfere with braking.
Thankfully, no accidents caused by this problem have been reported yet. The problem was actually spotted by a Ford employee last month, when he saw there was a space between the brake pedal and the console trim.
The affected vehicles were built between March 8th to June 7th at the automaker’s Louisville Assembly Plant. The official notice will be made starting July 23rd and the problem will be fixed by dealerships free of charge.
