The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently announced that Ford is recalling the 2012 Edge due to a fuel line issue that could cause a fire.
The campaign affects a total of 5,499 units of the 2012 Escape, which were built at the Oakville Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada between September 2 2010 and October 31 2011. with the Blue Oval issuing a stop sale for the cars.
"The fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack as a result of an improper manufacturing process," the NHTSA explains. "A cracked fuel line pulse damper housing may result in a combination of fuel odor, weepage or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire."
Ford tells us that it is not aware of any fires, crashes or injuries related to the aforementioned problem. The company’s dealers will replace the fuel line sub-assembly on the affected cars, with the recall scheduled to debut on September 24. You can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
