The all-new 2013 Escape has only been available for a couple o months now, and Ford has moved quickly to save its image from being tarnished. Thus, they’ve issued a major recall covering approximately 11,500 SUVs that could suffer from a leaking fuel line.
We say major because production hasn’t stated for very long, but it’s still a significant chunk of cars. The recall only affects the 1.6-liter Ecoboost models, leaving the 2.0-liter and the 2.5-liter engines unaffected.
As an additional safety precaution, customers who already own 2013 Escape vehicles with the 1.6-liter engine are being advised to stop driving their vehicles and to immediately contact their dealers. When they do, they will be given a loaner car until the necessary repairs are made.
"We have identified an issue and are taking quick actions in the best interest of our customers,” said Ray Nevi, assistant director, Ford Automotive Safety Office. “Our intensive investigation and testing has identified the area of concern and we are moving as quickly as possible to repair vehicles for our customers. In the meantime, it is extremely important that affected customers not ignore this recall and immediately contact their dealer."
