Ford is recalling the 2013 Escape SUV due to a fire risk, with this being the second time the vehicle is involved in such a campaign this year. The recall affects 6,146 units of the Escape, which use the 1.6-liter petrol engine.
"The cylinder head cup plug (freeze plug) may become dislodged, resulting in significant loss of engine coolant," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration release tells us. "As leaking engine coolant evaporates on the hot engine, the glycol may ignite, causing an engine compartment fire."

The Blue Oval claims it is not aware of any incidents that took place due to this problem. The carmaker’s dealers will seal the current plug and add a second cover. If you own one of the affected vehicles, you can contact Ford at (866) 436-7332.
