Ford came up with the Mustang Dark Horse in late 2022. The model entered production in the spring of 2023, and deliveries started in the fall. Now customers report all kinds of nice surprises delivered together with their sports car. The company's CEO, Jim Farley, has just confirmed that it is happening with a post on X.
The street-legal Ford Mustang Dark Horse with racing DNA came as a surprise last fall. It dropped as the first new Mustang nameplate since the Bullit was unveiled back in 2001. Ford put the same 5.0-liter V8 Coyote engine under the hood, but with a twist. The V8 sports a unique crankshaft and forged piston connecting rods, which are carried over from the sixth-generation Shelby GT 400.

The Dark Horse has come to close the gap between the Mach 1 and the now-discontinued GT350. The employees at Ford's Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Detroit, Michigan, knew from the very start that they had something special on their hands. And decided to go special all the way. That is why they left handwritten notes inside the cabin for buyers to find once their sports car is delivered.

For instance, Chris Cervenka found such a note in the glovebox of his Ford Mustang Dark Horse the day it was delivered to him. The workers at the Flat Rock Assembly plant congratulated him on this purchase and welcomed him to the family. They also admitted to "love the cars" that they produce. That is, indeed, a very nice touch and customers get to know that the Mustang they end up driving was in good hands.

"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and welcome to the Ford Mustang family. You are now officially a member of the coolest family on Earth," wrote another team member on the same piece of paper.

Chris Cervenka uploaded a photo of the note on former Twitter/current X and Ford's CEO, Jim Farly, shared it on his profile to show his appreciation to the workers. "Love the dedication of our manufacturing teams to deliver for our Ford customers," Farley wrote.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse comes with the 5.0-liter V8 Coyote engine, tuned to generate 500 horsepower (507 PS), which is 14 horsepower (14 PS) more than what the GT variant comes with. Ford delivers the Dark Horse with either a Tremec six-speed manual to please the purists or a ten-speed auto box, steering output and torque toward the rear axle. Yet, according to Ford, most customers go for the automatic and also tick the optional Electronic Drift Brake. This brand-new variant starts at $62,265

The Dark Horse was the most potent Mustang before the GTD came along with over 800 horsepower. However, it still is one of the quickest out there: it takes 3.7 seconds to run from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) when equipped with the auto box or 4.2 with the manual and runs the quarter mile in little over 12 seconds on its way to a top speed rated at 161 mph (259 kph).
