Ford is working on a special version of the Mustang but keeps it all under wraps. Almost all, actually. The company’s CEO has posted a teaser which reveals more than it seem to reveal at first sight.
A new stallion is ready to arrive in the Mustang stable. The photos uploaded by Jim Barely on former Twitter/current X show the horizontal slats of a vertical grille, part of its outline, and part of a headlight, accompanied by the caption "Can't wait to show you what's next for Mustang…" The second photo is the exact same one but zoomed in, so it does not reveal more than the first one does.

The most intriguing part of it all is that there is the GT/CS lettering between two of the slats of the grille. That is easy for the Ford aficionados to guess. It is the badging for the Ford Mustang GT California Special.

But wait! There is more to it than just the GT/CS lettering in the dark image dropped by Jim Farely on social media. Ford probably did not see it coming. On the low left side of the photo, there is a date: 11/11/23. That is November 11, and it must be the date Ford will unveil the new variant. We are just three days away from seeing the California Special.

Furthermore, there are geographical coordinates: 33° 26' 23.8" N, 117° 37' 40.116" W. Where does that lead? It takes us straight to the Outlets of San Clemente, a shopping mall located in the Los Angeles suburb of San Clemente. This is where the new Ford Mustang GT California Special should show up.

The place is located 68 miles (an hour drive) from the Los Angeles Convention Center, where the Los Angeles Motor Show opens its gates on November 17. The model will surely make it to the event in the following week.

We don't expect the Mustang GT California Special to get some extra oomph from the 5.0-liter V8 engine. But it will reportedly reveive a modded exhaust and intake, plus a retuned suspension. There will be visual tweaks as well, which will instantly identify it as a GT/CS. Body stripes and exclusive wheel designs are usually on the menu.

The first California Special hit the road back in 1968 with a Shelby-inspired design coming for less money than the Shelby. Ford brought it back in 2007, when they also revived the Shelby GT500 and the Shelby GT. The previous generation reintroduced the GT/CS for the 2019 model year.

We are yet to see if the Ford Mustang GT California Special will be available in both coupe and convertible body styles as before. Set to be revealed in three days from now, on November 11, it should go on sale soon after that as a 2025 model year.
