It's official, the Ford Focus Electric is one of the safest cars out there, after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded it with a five-star rating. Considering it's based on the regular Focus hatchback, it's hardly surprising, and not completely unexpected. Being green no longer needs to be a compromise in other areas.

Packed with a number of advanced safety features, such as the AdvanceTrac electronic stability control and the new intelligent airbags, it's no wonder the Focus Electric passed the NHTSA test with a five-sfar Overal Vehicle Score.

Other safety features coming with the 2013 Focus Electric are four-wheel anti-lock braking system, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tether Anchors for Children), and anti-theft engine immobilizer.

Back in November 2012, the 2013 Ford Focus earned a NHTSA five-star rating as well.
