Tuning an engine nowadays is simple. Just plug a laptop into the car with a special adapter and you’re set! Also, the results which can be achieved safely without altering the engine in any way, are very impressive. Now, Ford’s new 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine has been breathed upon by Superchips.
They managed to get the engine, which normally produces 127 hp (tested by Superchips on a dyno) and 169 Nm (125 lb-ft) or 200 Nm (149 lb-ft) under hard acceleration, with the overboost function, up to 145 hp and a maximum torque figure of 227 Nm (167 lb-ft) - twenty years ago, such power outputs from such displacements would have been akin to witchcraft, at least in a mass-produced car.
The remap will set you back €580 (£455 / $710) and if it holds up (and being Superchips, we do have confidence), then we see no reason why you couldn’t run your 1-liter Focus at 145 hp for as long as you have it. We know we would!
