With Ford’s excellent 1.0-liter ECOboost engine gaining popularity rapidly in Europe, it was bound to attract attention. Now, some European and American motoring journalists have put the 1.0 ECOboost-equipped Focus through a series of tests, most of which measured its speed according to various parameters.
For its class, called Class 5 (from 850cc to 1.0-liter), the 125-hp engine is a real gem. This engine has made all of Europe talking, and with good reason. We even think that with its decent power output (for its size) and its torque figure of 170 Nm (200 Nm with overboost) it could power the much larger Mondeo without a problem, as a basic, entry level petrol engine to kick off the range.
Back to the Focus, the car did a series of measured runs, most notable of which was the top speed run, where the car reached a very respectable 191,056 km/h. In total, the car broke 16 records set for its class, and with no manufacturers (apart from Fiat) having an engine to give them a run for their money, Ford should retain their 1.0-liter crown for the foreseeable future.
