Wrapped in black instead of painted, fitted with a Volvo engine and sending too much power to the front wheels, the Focus RS500 is an engineering exercise that’s most at home on the race track.
In between the BMWs, the Porsches and Ferraris, it still manages to draw a lot of attention.
Sold in strictly limited numbers, the RS500 is a re-tuned version of the regular Focus RS, offering 350 horsepower. It can handle all that power (but only just) going through the front because of special RevoKnuckle suspension that reduces torque steer and a Quaife limited slip differential.
The RS500 is the old generation Focus’ “swan song”, the last engineering strike at boredom. The hatch only needs 5.6 seconds to deal with the 0 to 62 mph sprint (it manages to cut 0.3 seconds off the standard RS’s time) and can reach a top speed of 163 mph.
