The Blue Oval company is very happy that its legendary Mustang pony car is now more mature and wiser than ever at 60 - though it's also still very young in spirit and performance.
Just as a reminder, the original Ford Mustang – the initiator of an all-new niche called pony cars – first went on sale at the New York World's Fair on April 17, 1964, according to the Blue Oval. Although it's now six decades older, they still think it's "synonymous with fun, freedom, performance, and a touch of rebellion." Naturally, Ford, alongside enthusiasts around the world, is celebrating heavily.

At home in America, there's a new Mustang Experience Center set to open in 2025, which will become the destination for all things Mustang – a true hub for both owners and fans. They also announced the most powerful version ever of the pony car, the Mustang GTD, is available for reservation, and the regular Mustang is getting a 60th Anniversary package for the 2025 model year.

Caveats do apply – both to the Mustang GTD reservation process and the fact that the 60th Anniversary package, inspired by the 1965 Ford Mustang GT, is a (very) limited-edition deal available solely on 1,965 examples of Mustang GT Premium Fastback coupe and Convertible models. There was also a fresh Mustang teased during the announcements, and the rumor mill is rampantly running speculation if that was a Shelby version or just the upcoming 2025 model year variant.

Anyway, over the big pond – aka the Atlantic Ocean – Ford also sells the 2024 Mustang to keep its worldwide best-selling sports car title (it has it for more than a decade already). And Europe is not being left out of the anniversary celebrations. As such, the Blue Oval company marks six decades of iconic pony cars with Ford Mustang Global Gallop celebrations and a few targeted announcements.

The biggest news is that, believe it or not, the 800-horsepower supercharged V8 Mustang GTD is also coming to Europe – Ford just confirmed its upcoming availability on the Old Continent! There are also two new versions of the Euro-spec Mustang – the Mustang California Special and the new Mustang Nite Pony Package. The "Mustang Day" celebrations include the Ford Mustang Global Gallop – sixty model ambassadors, journalists, and content creators are set to go on "epic road trips simultaneously in North America, South America, Europe, South Africa, China, and Australia to recognize the iconic sports car's enduring popularity around the globe."

Additionally, Ford announced that the order books would open on April 30 for the new Mustang Mach-E Rally version, packing 486 ps (479 hp) and 950 Nm of torque of all-wheel drive all-electric power. The Mustang GTD, meanwhile, will receive applications later this year during the summer season, but potential customers have a chance to see it in advance – the Mustang GTD will be in attendance to see the Mustang GT3 compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race on June 15 and 16.
