FIA Members Hit Di Montezemolo for anti-Molsey Comments

Whoever thought Max Mosley is doing this whole anti-Luca di Montezemolo campaign on his own is dead wrong. Although a number of people argue that the FIA president is simply responding to the insults of the Ferrari CEO – even though he started the dispute with his uncalled “loonies” jibe – one of the things this exchange of “kind words” between the two officials is doing is jeopardize the FIA-FOTA peace.

Regardless of that danger, here is another FIA official that feels entitled to back president Mosley in his wordily battle with the FOTA chairman. Spanish Motorsport Federation president Carlos Garcia, probably grateful for Mosley's accepting Campos Grand Prix for the 2010 Formula One Championship detrimentally to other important outfits, recently slammed Di Montezemolo for his lack of respect towards his superior.

In the words of Garcia, “what Luca di Montezemolo has done was show a lack of respect to the FIA and the World Council,” as quoted by Spanish radio station Onda Cero. In addition, the Spaniard also expressed his doubts over Mosley's renouncing to candidate for another mandate, given the way the FOTA conducted themselves following the Paris peace agreement last Wednesday.

It wouldn't surprise me if Max Mosley runs for re-election. The worst thing you can do with an animal is leave him wounded, and what Luca di Montezemolo has achieved is to re-activate Max. You can't dance on someone's grave before he's dead,” said Garcia.

As for the 69-year old Brit NOT using this latest conflict with Di Montezemolo as an excuse to run for another mandate as FIA president, Garcia admitted he would consider replacing Mosley. He did cover his comments however, insisting he wouldn't do it as a way to challenge the Brit for the presidency.

I believe Max Mosley has a lot of support and I would think twice before running against him, because I don't want to take any risks that may damage Spanish motorsport. Above all, I'm the president of the Spanish Federation and I have to defend Spanish sport,” added Garcia.

Well, at least now we know another name that will not make the “We Prefer” list of the FOTA when the elections will get under way in October this year.
