Mosley Would Back Jean Todt for the FIA Presidency

With the news now official that Max Mosley will step down from the FIA presidency in October this year, rumors will now invade the media regarding his potential replacement as head of the ruling body. Mosley himself admitted that he doesn't have a clue on who will want to take the job, but said he will give his recommendation in case there will be more than 2 candidates.

Until the October elections, Mosley will not have anything to do with Formula One either. As a result of yesterday's agreement between him, FOM boss Bernie Ecclestone and FOTA chairman Luca di Montezemolo, it was decided that Monaco automobile club president Michel Boeri will take over the FIA's liaison with Formula One with immediate effect.

However, Mosley doesn't think Boeri has either the power or the disposability to run for a presidential mandate. Alongside his obvious lack of interest for the job itself, thinks the 69-year old Englishman, age will also become a factor in the councilors' decision to appoint a new president.

I cannot imagine that Boeri is interested in the post (as FIA president). He is also too old,” Mosley was quoted as saying by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.

However, Mosley doesn't think the same about former Ferrari boss Jean Todt. The Frenchman was linked with a potential bid for the FIA presidency some 3 months ago, when he decided to give up all his active roles within the Scuderia. Although he is not a very popular choice within the F1 paddock – except for Ferrari, of course – Mosley says he would be glad to support Todt in a potential race for the FIA presidency.

I would not like to exclude it. If there is more than one candidate, then I will give a recommendation,” revealed Mosley, who also insisted the teams will not have a saying in the upcoming elections.
