Mosley Admits Pressure to Stand for Re-Election

The things Max Mosley can say to cause a stir... After making sure Luca di Montezemolo's insults directed at him are not let unanswered, the 69-year old Brit is now on the verge of diffusing yet another bomb in the never ending dispute with the FOTA. As confirmed in an interview for the Daily Mail, he is now having second thoughts about giving up his presidential seat later this year.

Although initially announcing he will not run for another mandate as FIA president, Mosley argued that he felt annoyed by the rumors that he was already history within Formula One after last week's agreement between the FIA and the FOTA.

Soon after the two bodies came to an agreement, it surfaced the media that French FIA official Michel Boeri was to replace Mosley with immediate effect in terms of F1 duties. While dismissing that information as being totally false, the FIA president also insisted that he will not step down if “constant pressure” will be put on the ruling body in the months to come.

It's no good the teams getting a PR agency to claim I am dead and buried when I am standing here as large as life,” said Mosley in the aforementioned interview.

That was obviously very annoying and not just for me. It has given the impression to the member clubs of the FIA that the car industry had dictated who the president could be and what the president should do. That caused uproar.

I do genuinely want to stop. But if there is going to be a big conflict with the car industry ... I will do whatever I have to do. It's not in my nature to walk away from a fight,” added the Brit.

In addition, Mosley also revealed that he is now under a lot of pressure to continue as president of the ruling body, as the Formula One teams are looking to gain more decisional power within the FIA for the years to come. He even put the FIA agreement with the FOTA under doubt, as he revealed the deal is conditioned by “an agreement (of the FOTA) with the Williams and Force India teams ... and the three new teams.”
