Mosley Insults Di Montezemolo. Peace in Danger?

OK... So we're getting a little bit tired of this, but the FIA – FOTA dispute might not be over. Although the two parties have reached an agreement on the 2010-onwards rules last Wednesday, it seems egos are starting to make their way into the settlement.

It was initially FOTA's CEO Luca di Montezemolo who started the whole thing, as he claimed it was the teams' alliance who won the FIA war – after previously agreeing that it was a joint effort from both organizations to get over the dispute. In addition, the Italian official did not have very kind words towards the FIA president, while backed by the other anti-Mosley team boss, Flavio Briatore.

As the FOA representatives can't seem to let go Mosley's “loonies” jibe 2 weeks ago, the FIA president stroke back. Yesterday, the 69-year old Brit launched an unprecedented attack on Ferrari's boss Luca di Montezemolo.

Within the motor sport world nobody takes him seriously. He's seen as what the Italians call a 'bella figura' (style over substance). He's chairman of Fiat but the serious individual who runs it is Sergio Marchionne, and I don't suppose he takes much notice of Luca,” Mosley was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Mosley argued that the peace offer accepted by both parties should have led to quietness from both the FIA and the FOTA representatives. Instead, Luca's constant TV appearances after the agreement is seen as unacceptable for Mosley. To strengthen his comments, he quoted one of Bernie Ecclestone's sayings.

He started life selling cars and one of his sayings is, 'Once you've sold the car, stop talking'. What Luca did was worse; not only did he not stop talking, but he talked stupidly,” added the FIA president.

As reported by the GMM news agency, a source from within the FOTA insisted the teams don't pay too much attention to what Mosley is commenting for the moment, unless it endangers the treaty signed less than a week ago.

If he doesn't, then we'll see what our options are, but at this stage we are treating what he has said as polemics,” the source was quoted as saying to the aforementioned agency.
