Any experienced tiny home builder must know that a well-done compact dwelling must achieve a perfect balance of size, style, and functionality in order to provide a comfortable tiny living experience. The skilled team at Canada-based Zerosquared knows this all too well and strives to make their clients' housing dreams come true.
Founded in 2017 by a squad of manufacturing specialists, industrial designers, and fabricators, the company specializes in crafting custom homes tailored to their clients' needs and preferences. Their aim is to allow people to downsize without downgrading their lives, so their designs incorporate plenty of modern amenities and functional elements, but at the same time, are simple enough to make everyday living easier.

The Willow is the Calgary-based company's traditional tiny home model and comes in different lengths, from 26 feet to 34 feet (8 meters to 10.3 meters), all with a legal 8.5-foot (2.6-meter) towing width. In this piece, we will take a closer look at the largest version, which allowed the designers to emulate the luxury and comfort of a traditional home in a compact package.

Like most mobile tinies crafted by Zerosquared, this modular tiny home is built onto a permanent 8.5' wide, triple-axle chassis and adheres to the Canadian and United States recreational vehicle codes.

With a modern two-tone exterior that mixes commercial steel siding with some engineered wood accents and a distinctive butterfly roof that allows for a two-loft configuration and helps with rainwater drainage, this house on wheels can easily attract attention and make one curious about what's inside.

The spacious interior with high ceilings and an open-concept design brings to mind comparisons to a beautiful log cabin in the woods but with all the modern creature comforts included. With a total of 389 square feet (36.13 square meters) of livable space, including the lofts, this home pushes the limit of tiny living and offers everything you'd find in a regular-sized dwelling.

Its well-thought-out layout incorporates a warm, light-filled living room, a gorgeous kitchen, a main-floor bedroom, a loft, and a modern walk-through bathroom. In terms of finishings, the designers opted for premium laminate floorings, white walls, and accent wood ceilings that enhance the rustic look. A myriad of windows and not one but two glass sliding doors, one opening into the kitchen area and the other in the living room, ensure the interior is filled with light and well-ventilated.

Optimized for single-level living, the Willow tiny house includes a ground-floor bedroom, but it also offers the benefit of a 100-square-foot loft that can be used as a secondary bedroom or for storage. Moreover, this model can be built with an optional automated elevator loft, an innovative design solution that makes efficient use of the available vertical space. The main advantage of this clever feature is that it can be lowered to 4 feet at night, meaning you don't need to use a ladder to get to bed. During the day, it elevates to 8 feet and stays out of the way, suspended above the living area.

Designed to be the perfect entertaining area when you have family and friends over, the living room is outfitted with a three-seat sofa that can convert into a bed if necessary, an entertainment unit with a large TV, and a wood-burning fireplace that adds a tinge of rustic vibe to the space. Flanked by windows and connected to the outdoors via the glass sliding door, this lounge is also very bright and allows inhabitants to enjoy the surrounding views.

The adjacent L-shaped kitchen is well-equipped for cooking your favorite meals with a plethora of modern appliances, including a three-burner stove, oven, sink, microwave/hood combo, dishwasher, and refrigerator. Loads of custom base and upper cabinets and a pantry offer plenty of storage space for all your cooking essentials.

A pull-out counter extension maximizes space and serves as a dining area for up to four people. Across the kitchen, there is the staircase leading up to the loft, which comes with built-in storage cubbies.

The lofted sleeping space is enormous. It fits a king-size bed, with plenty of room left for a couple of nightstands and additional cabinets for storing clothes and other personal items.

The bathroom of the Willow tiny home is on the hallway leading to the ground-floor bedroom. It's a walk-through design with a tiled shower stall on one side and a standard toilet, a sink, and a washing machine on the other. Clients can also opt for a shower/tub combination unit if it better fits their lifestyle.

A discreet pocket door from the bathroom leads to the downstairs bedroom, which is large enough to accommodate a king-size bed and multiple cabinets. Besides total privacy, this bedroom comes with the benefit of full-height ceilings, enough room to walk around the bed, and beautiful views. Not to mention, the company offers an optional bedroom patio entry, meaning owners can enjoy a seamless connection to the outdoors in this space as well.

Everything about the Willow tiny house is awesome, from its modern appearance to the high level of comfort. This model costs CAD $160,000 (approx. US $118,500), which is an attractive price for a tiny house that offers such an extensive feature package.
