It seems like everyone wants a piece of the tiny living and mobile lifestyle. However, some of these homes on wheels can fetch a pretty penny, not the Coach House. This little downsized unit can have everything you need to survive off-grid and just about wherever you're welcomed.
Folks, Hummingbird Micro Homes is a crew born out in BC or British Columbia, and if you're aware of the sort of landscape this portion of Canada is filled with, then you should have a clear notion of the sort of extremes a Hummingbird tiny home is designed to endure.

But, a tiny home that can beat the elements at its own game and still do the things these units are known for can end up costing quite the pretty penny, and this is why I chose to bring to light the Coach House, its ability to withstand frigid Northern weather while costing only $49,500, and I think that's Canadian, so we're looking at $36,700 American. For a tiny home!? That's more like it!

Now, for this sort of price, you'd expect to see a unit that can help you with the bare minimum of systems and features to keep you comfortable and alive in the wild. Funny enough, countless systems in this home operate on electricity, typically shore power, but with a few extra bucks, solar panels and battery packs are at your disposal.

This brings me to this home's exterior. You can't see it in the images in the gallery, but the Coach House is set up on a dual-axle trailer, but it's covered by those side skirts. As for the frame and cladding, you bet your bottom dollar that wood is king. That exterior siding you see is nothing but cedar and some metal for the roofing.

In all, the Coach is 8.2 ft (2.5 m) wide and 18.4 ft (5.6 m) long, meaning that it's going to feel a whole lot like towing along a fifth wheel or other towering unit as you drive down the road. Also, be sure to check with local regulations of the states or regions you're traveling through, as each has its own regulations.

For a moment, let's say you own this unit. In doing so, you can picture yourself and your life in the Coach House. Let's also pretend that you made it out to that X on your map and are now standing around looking at a stabilized Coach House. Luckily, that front patio is thrown into your purchase, so you won't need to worry about accessing your hut in the woods.

Once everything is nice and settled, it's time to turn on all the systems that will be making this wooden box feel like a home for the next few days to weeks. This includes powering up the Bosch hot water tanks, Steelpro wall-mounted heating system, and even throwing a pot of coffee on that induction cooktop. If you happen to have some cash left over from your purchase, you could easily add those solar panels and batteries I mentioned, helping you really take things off-grid.

Finding yourself inside, you take a long look around at all the wood covering every inch of this home. If you've been looking for a rustic and raw mountain cabin, this is the one! Inch after inch of space is built with the help of wood, and only the appliances bring a touch of modern living.

Speaking of modern living, since this unit is much smaller than your average tiny home, Hummingbird relied on features like a Murphy bed to offer as much space as possible during daily activities. However, you can eliminate this bed altogether and just use the loft for sleeping. Yes, it has a loft accessible by a staircase found beyond the galley. This loft extends over the bedroom that houses the Murphy bed and a fully-equipped bathroom too.

Finally, let me point out the galley and dining area. This is the space that's accessed first as you enter the Coach House, and while it may not come across as the most elaborate of kitchens, it boasts plenty of space to bring along and cook food for weeks. The massive residential fridge only aids in your meal plans. Just bring along anything else you may need; you'll have plenty of cash left over after purchasing this puppy.

One thing you need to know is that Hummingbird has only one such available at this time. This means that you're buying a one-of-a-kind unit that you won't be seeing again or anytime soon. All you have to do is take a trip up to Canada and take things from there.

Speaking of purchasing this unit from Hummingbird, if you do, make sure you take the next four months off because this crew throws in four months of free pad rental up at a place called Bluegrass Meadows in Terrace, BC. All I can say about this area is that it's an outdoor lover's dream, nestled deep in the Hazelton Mountains. Looking for a mobile cabin retreat?
