GM Design Center's social media page has yet another enticing ideation sketch, this time around from designer Hakan Demir, who is envisioning the Wildcat EV Concept a little closer to series production – probably to spite Dodge's all-new 2024 Charger Daytona zero emissions muscle car.
Right now, there are a lot of fans who disapprove of GM or Ford's resolution to kill off as many passenger car nameplates as possible. Currently, Ford is left with just the 2024 Mustang pony and muscle car, while Chevrolet only has the 2024 Malibu mid-size sedan and the Corvette C8 after it also gave up on the sixth-generation Camaro. Meanwhile, other brands like Lincoln or Buick have nothing but crossovers.

The latter is in a peculiar spot, actually. While the 2023 Encore GX, Envision, and Enclave are not that interesting, the newer models and the refreshments are heavily influenced by a design study that's neither a crossover nor an SUV. Instead, Buick presented in June 2022, almost two years ago, the Wildcat EV concept car as an electric two-door coupe that not only foreshadowed the styling direction of Buick but also paved the way for upcoming EVs.

The zero-emissions models are still nowhere to be found, but the DNA of the design study lingers on – for example, its original use of the new 'Trishield' corporate emblem was passed on to the first-ever 2024 Envista, the facelifted 2024 Encore GX or the upcoming 2024 Envision. So, why wouldn't Buick consider bringing to life the Wildcat EV as a series-production two-door coupe?

After all, it bears the name of the classic Wildcat full-size model, which appeared on the market between 1963 and 1970 throughout two generations with two-door coupe and convertible plus four-door hardtop and sedan body styles. If Buick were to present a series production version of the Wildcat EV, complete with two-door coupe and four-door sedan form factors, it wouldn't even be the first American manufacturer with an electric 'muscle car.'

In fact, if you thought the all-new 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T and Scat Pack or the four-door 2025 Charger Sixpack needed a competitor, it turns out somebody at General Motors deemed the Buick Wildcat EV concept as a perfect fit. Looking at this ideation sketch of a big two-door coupe, it's clear that it could easily represent GM's counter to Dodge's new EV era if anyone cared to put this design into production, that is.

However, don't get your wishful thinking hopes up too much because GM has a habit of disregarding both independent designers and even the cool ideas stemming from its own GM Design Center. So, it wouldn't be the first good style that ends up nowhere, unfortunately.
