Bentley Bentayga customers now have an app available for their Apple Watches. Instead of controlling in-car systems once they get inside, like in the middle ages, Bentayga owners will be able to interact with particular features of their cars directly from the dedicated Apple Watch app.
Naturally, the application is not included with the purchase, but this should not be an obstacle for someone who can afford a new Bentley.
The app is free to download from the App Store, and it can be easily paired and activated for use with a Bentayga. Obviously, the user must get inside the vehicle to complete the activation process.
Once that is done, the driver will have control over the on-board climate and entertainment systems of the Bentley Bentayga. This includes changing the audio source, selecting stations and songs, as well as shifting the position of seats and other interior adjustments which are electronically controlled.
Heating, ventilation, and massage functions of the seats can be adjusted from the app as well. This feature will allow users to change the settings described above even when inside the vehicle, if they do not want to spend a second away from the screen of the Apple Watch. Other elements that can be monitored from the app are statistics, like distance traveled, and real-time information, like vehicle speed and outside temperature.
Bentley is not the only carmaker to introduce dedicated apps for the Apple Watch. BMW launched the i Remote App last summer, which works with the same wearable device. Unlike Bentley, BMW also released a similar app for the Samsung Galaxy Gear watch. The latter seems to be ignored by the British carmaker, probably because it does not have a luxury version with a Gold case. There is a Bentayga TSR (Touch Screen Remote) app for Android phones, though, and it offers the same options as the one for Apple devices.
Tesla, Ford, Volvo, and Hyundai also have dedicated apps for the Apple Watch or similar devices. Depending on vehicle and application, these utilities can flash the headlights, activate the heating system, and check remaining range and other stats that are electronically monitored by the vehicle.
