With the grand unveiling of Apple Watch approaching high-tech companies have begun showing their compatible apps. Elon Musk’s Tesla Motors is among those who are interested so he had software engineering company Eleks Labs working on a proper design for EV owners.
While gadget gizmo-heads are still discussing whether Tim Cook’s new Apple Watch is in any way better than the Android Wear-based smart watch announced by Motorola Mobility in 2014 or than the upcoming Gear S, companies in the hi-tech business are already looking into developing the apps.
Apple Watch was announced last September and should hit the market in about two months. According to the California-based IT giant, the new smart watch will be compatible with the iPhone 5 and later iPhone models running iOS 8.2. It comes in three collections, featuring two sizes - 38 mm and 42 mm high - spread across 34 individual models.
Things such as pressure-sensitive touchscreen that can distinguish between a tap and a press, a dial called a digital crown and wireless charging define the long expected gadget.
Getting back to our point of interest, however, the Apple Watch app allows controlling the Tesla Model S car via the Internet using web-service API. Even though it’s still in works, according to Eleks Labs, the app lines up with the concept of smart watches, letting users access critical information about the car. It also allows managing it quickly without wasting time on taking out and unlocking the phone.
Features such as checking the status of the car’s battery life, mileage and temperature are already part of the current version, with further details such as ability to unlock and lock the doors, control the headlights and a map screen that shows exactly where you parked the car could follow.
