Make no mistake about it, the best movie with cars of 2017 isn’t the latest Fast & Furious. In fact, the Fate of the Furious pales in comparison to what Baby Driver has to offer. Beyond the driving skills of Baby and how masterful director Edgar Wright is with making the viewer enjoy the getaway scenes at the edge of his seat, the box office hit is gifted with one of the most carefully selected soundtracks you will ever hear in a mainstream movie.
This attention to detail, even when it comes to music, can be seen in Baby Driver right from the opening scene. The first six minutes of the movie are already on YouTube and, as you can see in the first of the two videos below, the action centers around the red-painted Subaru WRX driven by Baby. Most importantly, however, what happens in those minutes, almost everything is synched to the mischievous Bellbottoms by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
There’s no denying, however, that the 2006 Subaru WRX is the real star, with Baby driving the wheels off the rallying-inspired car on the streets of Atlanta, trying to escape the heat from the cops. And guess what: one of those very Subarus can be yours, with the eBay listing standing at $27,600 after 29 bids.
According to the seller, the second-generation Scooby was converted to RWD and received an upgraded rear differential, plus the turbo from a 2004 model year STI. “It was tuned by Doug Wilkes at DBW Motorsport" and the car was also used for “the music video for ‘Chase Me’ by Danger Mouse, Big Boi & Run The Jewels.” Most importantly, the stunt-prepped WRX was used at the movie’s L.A. premiere red carpet event. “This is a running and driving car,” despite the fact it has dings and scratches from Baby Driver’s filming.
Bearing in mind the average selling price of a 2006 WRX is $17,256 on Autotrader, it’s easy to label the stunt car as being too expensive for what it is, more so if you bear in mind it shows 158k miles on the clock. Then again, Baby’s car is special, and if the movie gains cult status in the coming years, you can bet your sweet bippy it will be worth a lot more than it does now.
