We're taking this with a gran of s, but reports from motoring.com.au suggest Audi is working on a car called the S3 Plus. It would slot between the regular S3 and the RS3, obviously offering power levels to bridge the gap between the two.
The aim is apparently to create a new contender for the title of "most powerful series-production 2-liter engine". The S3 Plus will apparently have about 380 PS, 20 more than the A45 AMG and all of its sister models.

Taking this rumor into account, it would be logical that the RS3 would pack 400 PS or more. The engine for this model and the TT RS is currently being developed, a new 2.5-liter TFSI unit that complies with Euro 6 regulations. It's amazing to think a small car with a 2.6-meter wheelbase will have as much power as an E92 BMW M3.

"There will be no overlap because there is a lot of development available to the five-cylinder engine," a senior Audi engineering source reportedly told Motoring.

Even though this story quoted insiders, we're not completely sold on the idea. The "Plus" name has not been used for S models before and the car might undermine sales of both the S3 and RS3. Then again, there's yesterday's report of a Golf R Evo, a more hardcore version of the S3's brother from a different mother. That car supposedly has a carbon fiber roof and other body panels, something Audi has also done to its hot cars.

If these reports are true, than Audi's lineup is going to become more confused than ever.
