The hot hatch industry might seem like a game the auto industry plays to keep us amused, but being able to brag that you sell "the quickest hatch in the world" is an incredible marketing tool. There are also huge communities forming around particular brands or models, the biggest being for VW Group.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of GTI and Cupra fans come to the Worthersee-Treffen GTI in Austria. Especially for the fans Volkswagen makes one or more crazy concepts with lots of power. Last year, it was the Design Vision GTI Concept (picture above), with a mind-blowing output of 503 hp. VW dealers are still talking about this car, calling it the Golf that cost millions.

The 2014 Worthersee is in May, but it looks like the uber-goods will be presented before that at the Beijing Motor Show, which is in April. Nothing is official, but a concept called "Golf R Evo" is supposedly coming the Chinese event.

The information comes from Auto Express, who has learned from a company insider that the R Evo will have carbon fiver roof and other body panels. No word on power, but it should be a lot more than the current 300 hp and 380 Nm of torque.
