The e-tron GT and sportier RS e-tron GT have been hit with two recalls over the very same battery module-related problem. As per Volkswagen Group of America, the all-electric sedans may experience short circuits within the battery modules.
The question is, why did the German automaker issue two recalls instead of a single campaign? Documents published by the NHTSA reveal that dealers are required to analyze the battery data of 1,013 vehicles before deciding whether to replace the iffy modules or not. A further 29 vehicles will have their modules replaced by default.

Said recalls are dubbed 93VN and 93VM, respectively, in the German automaker's vernacular. The NHTSA numbers, on the other hand, are 24V-228 and 24V-229, respectively. Regarding the high-voltage battery modules, all of them were supplied by LG Energy Solution Wroclaw Sp. z o.o.

On December 6 last year, the Audi division was informed by Volkswagen Group sibling Porsche of a potential defect in Porsche Taycan modules produced by the aforementioned supplier. With the Taycan being technically similar to the e-tron GT, the four-ringed marque started looking into this matter together with Porsche and the supplier.

For both recalls, Volkswagen Group of America urges affected owners to charge their vehicles no more than 80 percent of the battery's capacity to prevent any short circuits within the modules. A short circuit may lead to a thermal event, which – obviously enough – could result in a battery fire.

Looking at the glass half full, the Audi brand hasn't identified any warranty claims or fire reports potentially related to the recall condition. Regarding affected vehicles, the build dates range from March 26, 2021 through February 15, 2024. Curiously enough, LG Energy Solution's Polish subsidiary improved cell production quality in May 2023.

Affected cell block modules bear part numbers 9J1915592J and 9J1915591J. Owners will be informed about said recalls via first-class mail on or about May 21. Dealers, on the other hand, were instructed by Volkswagen Group of America to analyze/replace suspect modules on March 26.

As opposed to the Porsche Taycan, which entered the 2025 model year with revised styling and more power in February 2024, the e-tron soldiers on in pre-facelift guise. Considering that Audi has been spied testing the mid-cycle refresh on numerous occasions in recent months, the 2025 model year facelift should go official in late spring 2024.

All-wheel drive by default, the 2024 Audi e-tron GT carries a starting price of $106,500 (sans destination charge) in the United States of America. The better-equipped Prestige trim level is $114,500, whereas the RS e-tron GT is $147,100 at the moment of writing. Despite being seriously expensive, Audi charges $4,500 for the full leather interior, $7,100 for carbon-ceramic brakes, and $5,000 for the so-called Carbon Performance Package that adds carbon-fiber garnish and rear-wheel steering.
