There is always a shift in popularity in the used car market, and it happens quite often. Now, the time has come for a South Korean model to take the crown in the UK. The award for the fastest-selling used car in the Kingdom goes to Kia XCeed. Tesla Model 3 comes in second.
Only 14 days. This is how much it takes for the retailers to sell a Kia XCeed. That is the speed of light on the used car market, considering that used cars take an average of 34 days to sell in the United Kingdom.
Two electric models, the Tesla Model 3 and the Mercedes EQC, follow the XCeed, with 14.5 days to sell. The Hyundai Ioniq hatchback is also among the popular models on the used car market, even though it was discontinued, taking 15 days to sell. The Ioniq is followed by another discontinued model, the Ford Fiesta, with 16 days.
The used car market confirms the customers' preference for crossovers and SUVs. This body type makes up six of the ten current fastest-selling used cars, with the ranking leader Kia XCeed, the Mercedes EQC, Ford Puma, Skoda Karoq, and Volvo XC60 being on the list.
At the opposite end sits the Vauxhall Crossland, which is right now the slowest-selling used car in the United Kingdom. It takes an average of 75 days for the Crossland to sell. The second slowest is the Land Rover Range Rover, with 72.5 days, followed by the Mazda CX-30, with 70 days, according to data provided by Auto Trader.
Scotland tops the charts when it comes to selling their stock to customers, with an average of 24 days. The North East is up next, followed by the West Midlands and Yorkshire & the Humber, all tied in second with an average of 25 days.
When it comes to regions, London is the slowest-selling location, with retailers taking as long as 31 days on average to sell used cars.
The EVs have been topping the rankings in terms of powertrains but trailed behind the petrol cars this past month. They took 28 days to sell, just as fast as the diesel-powered vehicles, but slower than petrols, with only 26 days.
The used car market is not slowing down, with second-hand cars selling as fast as last year, according to Richard Walker, Data & Insight Director at Auto Trader. Many of the models topping the charts are less than 12 months old.
