The good folks over at Kolesa, along with their resident pixel master Nikita Chuicko, aka kelsonik on social media, have imagined the looks of the upcoming Y63 Nissan Patrol – also known as Armada in the United States (or Infiniti QX56/QX80) – based on the latest spy photographers.
Suppose you want to talk about automotive legends. In that case, off-road fans will surely think highly of Japanese legends like the Nissan Patrol and Toyota Land Cruiser – even when pitted against icons like the Jeep models, the Land Rover Defender, or the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Even freshlings like the Ineos Grenadier might have a hard time finding trump cards against the likes, although they are brand-new vehicles.

Regarding the Nissan Patrol, the feud with the Toyota Land Cruiser and the now-defunct Mitsubishi Pajero started long ago, in 1951. However, just six generations have passed across more than seven decades, and the latest iteration, born in 2010, has been around for almost 13 years already. In the meantime, it spawned a luxury version dubbed Infiniti QX56 (now Called QX80), the first time a Patrol-based model was offered in North America since 1969, and also became the second-generation Nissan Armada.

The latter was 'born' in 2016 at the Chicago Auto Show and went on sale as a 2017MY with a 5.6-liter VK56VD V8 under the hood, 4x4, and a seven-speed automatic transmission. The upgraded version arrived in late 2020 for the 2021 model year with bolder looks and numerous technical upgrades. However, it can't hide the fact it's based on a platform from the 2000s much longer. As such, it is no wonder that the automotive industry's spy photographers are constantly uncovering new development prototypes 'around every corner.'

After the latest batch of camouflaged Patrol and Armada prototypes, the peeps at Kolesa decided it was about CGI time that Chuicko imagined the potential looks of twin Nissan models. According to the virtual artist's vision, extrapolated from the camouflaged SUVs, the signature radiator grille will become even more imposing, the front lights will feature a two-tier separation with a full-width LED strip both at the front and rear, and the Armada will also feature luxury touches borrowed from the flagship SUV of the Infiniti brand. As a reminder, the QX80 is also ready for a new generation as Infiniti keeps teasing us with the QX Monograph concept.

Back to the Patrol and Armada, the siblings might get a fashionable profile with hidden pillars dressed in black to blend in with the tinted windows. The rear lights are pretty minimalist, and the LED strip will connect them for a spectacular show at night. According to the rumor mill, the mighty Nissan full-size SUV series is about to fall victim to downsizing and will retire the big V8 in favor of a smaller V6 featuring dual turbocharging and rocking some 430 horsepower to marginally tower above the J300 Toyota Land Cruiser's 409-horsepower 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6.
