After last month's teaser, the next-gen BMW X2 has ended up in our news feed again, this time courtesy of a new teaser video that highlights some of the exclusive features of the M35i xDrive derivative, which will sit at the top of the range.
The all-new M Performance model will differentiate itself from the lesser variants by sporting beefed-up looks. It will have an X6-inspired illuminated grille, larger bumpers with more aggressive air intakes at the front and a diffuser at the rear, and probably side skirts with a slightly flashier design.
In the clip released online by BMW's M Division (the X2 M35i xDrive is not a full-blown M model), the vehicle also reveals a multitude of M logos on the outside. It has different side mirror caps, a set of exclusive wheels, and uprated brakes with cross-drilled discs and M-branded calipers. The spoiler attached to the tailgate is another highlight, alongside the quad exhaust tips.
Under the hood lies the same TwinPower Turbo engine found on the new X1 M35i xDrive. The 2.0-liter four-banger develops 313 hp (317 ps/233 kW) between 5,750 and 6,500 rpm on the North American specification and 295 pound-feet (400 Nm) of torque from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm. A seven-speed DCT delivers the thrust to the front-biased all-wheel drive system.
The 0-60 mph (0-97 kph) is a 5.2-second affair, and the top speed is 130 mph (209 kph), though it can be optionally raised to 155 mph (250 kph). We expect similar performance from the all-new BMW X2 M35i xDrive, which also benefits from the same retuned chassis with emphasis on the different suspension.
As you likely already know, the second-gen X2 will be an important departure from its predecessor in terms of the exterior design. BMW has finally made it look like the smaller sibling of the X4 and X6, so it comes with a sloping roofline and a similar profile, the numerous spy shots of the car have revealed. And if you must know, the interior will also carry over from the more practical X1, complete with all the amenities and the elevated looks on the M35i flavor.
BMW has confirmed that the all-new X2 will be officially presented online on October 11, and chances are the top-of-the-line M35i xDrive grade will be unveiled alongside the regular versions. Subsequently, the model will celebrate its public premiere at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, which will be hosted in Tokyo from October 26 to November 5.
That is also when we will see the battery-electric derivative that will be known as the iX2. This vehicle is expected to use the same powertrain as the BMW iX1, likely sharing its 308 hp (313 ps/230 kW) output and the 64.7 kWh battery pack.
