We already know how much the 2024 BMW X1 M35i xDrive will cost when it goes on sale Stateside in October, and that's $49,900 before the $995 destination charge, and now it's time to find out how much it is in Australia.
According to the brand's local branch, interested parties are looking at a recommended retail price of AU$90,900 (US$61,850), excluding on-road costs, or just shy of the new M2 in the US (AU$91,395/US$62,200).

Set to arrive at dealers Down Under at the end of the year, the new X1 M35i features BMW's most powerful four-pot. You're looking at a 2.0-liter inline-four with TwinPower Turbo tech, which kicks out 233 kW (316 ps/312 hp) at 5,750-6,500 rpm and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque at 2,000-4,500 rpm. Mated to a seven-speed DCT and front-biased AWD, it enables the 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) in 5.4 seconds and a 250 kph (155 mph) limited top speed. The average fuel consumption is 8.0-8.5 l/100 km (29.4-27.7 mpg US) on the WLTP cycle.

Standard exterior paint finishes available for it are Alpine White and Metallic. The Mineral White, Black Sapphire, Space Silver, M Portimao Blue, and Cape York Green are AU$1,800 (US$1,225) options. The BMW Individual Storm Bay and Frozen Pure Gray cost AU$2,500 (US$1,700) and AU$5,000 (US$3,400), respectively. Equipment-wise, the new X1 M35i is nicely specified, sporting 20-inch alloys, adaptive LED headlights, an automatic tailgate, a panoramic glass sunroof, two-zone climate control, 10.7- and 10.25-inch curved display running their Operating System 9, digital radio, premium audio, and leather upholstery.

It also gets the usual M Sport upgrades inside and out, and stuff such as the sport steering and adaptive M suspension at no extra cost. It rides roughly 15 mm (0.6 in) closer to the road compared to the regular versions, features uprated brakes that can be upgraded to the M Compound as of early next year in Australia, different traction control, and a few other goodies to justify the premium compared to the non-M Sport variants of the premium subcompact crossover.

BMW's new X1 M35i rivals models such as the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic in Australia. This vehicle kicks off at AU$112,097.93 (US$76,275), according to the brand's local website, and just like its rival from the Munich auto marque, it is very nicely specified. The GLB 35 is available with seating for up to seven, features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, boasts 225 kW (306 ps/302 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, and uses an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox to deliver the power to the AMG-tuned 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. It is one-tenth quicker to 100 kph (62 mph) than the X1 M35i, taking 5.3 seconds, and the top speed is also electronically limited to 250 kph (155 mph).
