BMW has just posted a teaser video showing a crossover coupe with an illuminated radiator grille. By the looks of it, it should be the upcoming X2 that the Bavarians have been working with. The model is slated to go into production before the end of the year.
But before that happens, the coupe sibling of the X1 is getting ready for its debut, and we are getting the first glimpse at it. Several prototypes have been spotted testing in various locations across Europe these past few months. The first teaser, shared on Instagram by both the BMW page and the company's chief designer Domagoj Dukec, is a sign that the model is inching closer to the official unveiling.

The short video shows the model with the silhouette of a high-ride coupe in the dark. We just get to the see outline of the vehicle with a sloped roofline ending with a spoiler and tilted rear window.

These details are pretty relevant: it can only be the X2. Once the shooting angle rotates and the car ends up with the front end at the camera, the kidney grille shows up with an illuminated outline, flanked by LED daytime running lights.

The next-generation BMW X2 will be underpinned by the new FAAR architecture, which the current X1 rides on as well. The engine lineup will copy/paste the one of the X1. The range-topping version should be the M35i xDrive, powered by the 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine that generates 312 horsepower (316 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, delivered to both axles via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

There will also be an electric X2, coming as the iX2 in 2024. The zero-emission crossover coupe will share the powertrain with the iX1 and the MINI Countryman E, which has recently made its debut at the 2023 IAA Mobility in Munich. That means that the entry-level version will be the iX eDrive20 with a single electric motor producing 201 horsepower (204 PS) and 182 lb-ft (247 Nm) of torque.

The range-topper is the iX1 xDrive30, powered by two electric motors for a total of 308 horsepower (312 horsepower) and 364 lb-ft (494 Nm), making it accelerate from 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) in 5.6 seconds. Top speed is 180 kph (112 mph).

Energy is stored in a 64.7-kWh lithium-ion battery for a maximum range of 440 kilometers (273 miles), according to the WLTP testing procedure. So these are the figures that we should expect in the upcoming BMW X2 as well.

Internally codenamed the “U10”, the next-gen X2 should be unveiled this fall. The model is slated to enter production before the end of the year, with the first deliveries happening in the first quarter of 2024.
