Subsequent to the unveiling earlier this year, the new-gen Mitsubishi Triton is now gearing up for launch in Australia. The pickup will arrive in showrooms in February 2024 with two body styles, dual cab, and club cab, with cab chassis to be added later.
Four trim levels will be available for the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton, with the base model, called the GLX, starting at AU$43,690 (US$28,653). It features 17-inch wheels, cloth upholstery, a vinyl floor, an automatic air-con, a 7-inch gauge cluster, a 9-inch infotainment system, Bluetooth, smartphone integration, and multiple active and passive safety gizmos.

In the latter category, the Japanese automaker mentions emergency lane keeping, blind spot warning, lane change assist, forward collision mitigation, lane departure prevention, front and rear cross-traffic alert, multi-collision brake, traffic sign recognition, driver attention alter and monitoring, adaptive cruise control, intelligent speed limiter, reversing camera, automatic high beam assist, and parking sensors at both ends.

Upgrading to the GLX+ means paying at least AU$50,340 (US$33,015). This grade adds LED taillights, front fog lamps, 17-inch alloys, privacy rear windows, side steps, a rear differential lock, DAB radio, rear automatic emergency braking, and a multi-around view monitor. The GLS starts from AU$59,090 (US$) and brings 18-inch alloys, heated side mirrors, LED lighting, dual-zone A/C, a wireless charging pad, and a few other things.

Last but not least, the GSR tops the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton lineup Down Under, kicking off at AU$63,840 (US$41,868). It rides on different 18-inch wheels compared to the lesser models, has a body-colored front grille, styling bar, roof rails, wheel arch molding, leather upholstery with orange stitching, Triton embossing on the floor mats, more cup holders, a power driver's seat, and that's about all.

All versions pack the same engine, a bi-turbo 2.4-liter diesel producing 150 kW (204 ps/201 hp) at 3,500 rpm with the torque standing at 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) from 1,500 to 2,750 rpm. Initially, Mitsubishi will offer the new Triton with a six-speed automatic transmission, whereas the six-speed manual option will be added to some models post-launch. All grades, bar the entry-level GLX, feature a four-wheel drive system for enhanced traction.

The average fuel consumption, according to the local standards, is 7.7 l/100 km (30.6 US mpg) on four-wheel-drive models and 7.5 l/100 km (31.4 US mpg) on the two-wheel drive base grade. The carbon dioxide emissions are rated at 203 and 199 g/km, respectively.

Deliveries of the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton will commence in a couple of months Down Under, and as you already know, the model remains a forbidden fruit in the United States. But could it really convince you to buy it over the usual offering in the segment? Drop a line below and let us know what you think of it.
