Over in America, you can't shrink a Kia any further than the five-door Rio or a Soul if we're talking crossovers. But in places like Australia, Europe, or the United Kingdom, the refreshed Kia Picanto is the smallest member of the family.
Celebrating two decades since the nameplate's introduction, Kia revealed the first images and official information regarding the fourth-generation Picanto city car back in July 2023 – it showcased a wacky design, especially for the GT-Line trim. Naturally, it has taken a while to reach all of its intended markets – with big ones like Australia getting it this past December and now another right-hand drive market announcing its local specifications.

So, Kia will sell the all-new fourth Picanto iteration in the UK from as low as £15,595 – which is the equivalent of $19,459. That's not very affordable for a city car – the larger Rio five-door starts from $17,690 in America, and the sedan version is even cheaper at $16,750. Even the UK has more options when it comes to focusing on a low paycheck – like the Citroen AMI, Dacia Sandero, MG 3, and Hyundai i10, among others.

Anyway, back to the 2024 Kia Picanto for the UK market, the South Korean automaker proposes a simpler lineup consisting of Picanto 2, Picanto GT-Line, Picanto 3, and Picanto GT-Line S (don't ask us where did the Picanto '1' go, though), along with a choice of two gasoline engines and one transmission setup. The new Picanto is already available to order as one of the UK's few remaining affordable cars, and first deliveries will occur in July, one year since the fourth generation was announced worldwide.

Picanto, the brand's fourth most popular nameplate after the Sportage, Niro, and Ceed models, has a design that's evocative of the latest releases – EV9, Sorento, Carnival, K5, or K4 – with vertical headlights and a double front and rear lightbar treatment. Inside the tiny cockpit, there's still enough space for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-inch touchscreen navigation system, numerous USB-A and USB-C charging ports, as well as a three-cylinder or four-cylinder under the hood.

The base engine is a one-liter with 62 horsepower, and the other option is a 1.2-liter with 77 horsepower, which is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. There's also an optional automated manual transmission (AMT), 16-inch alloy wheels on higher grades, LED lighting on GT-Line models, and vanity features like automatic AC plus a sunroof, among others. The price ranges from £15,595 for the Picanto 2 with the 1.0-liter engine and manual transmission to £19,145 or almost $24k for the Kia Picanto GT-Line S featuring the 77-hp 1.2-liter inline-four and the comfortable five-speed automated manual transmission.
