The time has finally come. Alfa Romeo confirms that its first supercar in 16 years will debut on August 30. Why has the Italian carmaker chosen that day for the big reveal? It is no coincidence. It is the day of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Alfa Romeo has shared a 'save the date' kind of teaser photo with the "The Courage to Dream" strapline in Italian.

The limited-run supercar that the Italian carmaker is working on will be heavily inspired by the iconic T33 Stradale and should come with the 6C designation. The '6' is a hint to the twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 that currently powers the Giulia Quadrifoglio. The power unit might get the Formula One-derived groundbreaking pre-chamber combustion system sporting twin-spark plugs like Maserati's MC20.

The engine will most likely be tuned to provide more than the Giulia sports sedan, thus trying to get closer to the hypercar territory. That translates to "expensive," probably running into the hundreds of thousands price range.

It is quite a bold decision to make, considering the electrification trend in the industry. But the Italians told last year that the Tonale would not be the last of the ICE-powered cars in the company's lineup.

Back in February, when the company's CEO Jean Philippe Imparato confirmed the arrival of the supercar, he predicted: "It will be sold out before I unveil the car." He then claimed it would turn out to be "iconic, super-sexy, and recognizable as an Alfa Romeo at first sight."

The first and last time Alfa Romeo teased its upcoming supercar was January when they released a 13-second video showing one of the taillights. Now we are inching closer to the debut of the model, set to take place at the end of August in Arese, Italy, at Alfa Romeo's museum.

The last Alfa Romeo Supercar

The last Alfa Romeo Supercar was the 8C Competizione, that broke cover in 2007 as a coupe and, one year later, dropped as a spider version. The 8 in the designation refers to the 4.7-liter V8 engine assembled by Ferrari.

444 horsepower (450 PS) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque were the figures that it bragged about, while the redline started at 7,500 rpm.

Only 500 such cars saw the light of day. And they sold out fast. Alfa Romeo is counting on the same strategy with the upcoming 6C.

The Alfa Romeo 6C will carry over design cues from the legendary T33 Stradale, the car penned by Franco Scaglione in the 1960s and considered one of the most beautiful ever made.

Back in January, Alfa Romeo showed supercar potential and made some jaws drop with the one-off Giulia SWB Zagato. It was the Italian coachbuilding firm's manner to celebrate Alfa’s 100-year anniversary.
