It has been a minute since we last discussed Acura's exploits across the American car market. Just recently, the brand decided that all RDX versions should only come with AWD, starting at $44k. Additionally, they also upgraded the 2024 TLX 'Sport Sedan.'
The refreshed 2024 TLX lineup is arriving at nationwide dealerships with "styling enhancements, improved technology, more standard features, and a quieter cabin." Everything is higher, including the starting price – the MSRP without destination is $45k, which is $4,500 pricier than the outgoing model. The MDX premium performance SUV is also around the below-$50k threshold, starting at $49,850, painting a picture of sensible luxury.
Even better, you can also have the premium sport compact Integra model from $31,500 if you don't want the related Honda Civic Si. But wait, as the TLX ($57k), MDX ($68,150), and Integra ($50,800) also have Type S versions – the epitome of sportiness at Acura. Note that one model is missing from the high-performance equation: the NSX sports car. Well, its (second) stint on planet Earth is over, and it all ended with the 2022 Acura NSX Type S, which cost an arm and a leg at an MSRP of $169,500.
But what if purist two-door Acura fans didn't need to sob about losing the hybrid sports car to the unruly gods from the accounting department? If you agree to suspend your disbelief for a minute, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators is happy to oblige – and at a much lower price point. Meet Jim, the virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, who has again stopped messing with all things GM and Ford – and he's now dreaming of a proper Integra coupe.
This pixel master has invented something called 'imagination land' – the place where all his daily fantasies reside through the power of CGI. Usually, he loves playing with long-gone wonders of the 1980s and 1990s, but a modern idea strikes like lightning every now and then. Sometimes, it's a genius one – like that one moment of awe when he turned the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter into a two-door SUV or the second of digital bliss when he dreamed of a modern Cadillac Eldorado-V Convertible rebirth.
Now, perhaps triggered by TLX's refreshing introduction, he again touches on the eternal Acura subject – why hasn't Honda allowed the premium carmaker to reintroduce the Integra as a two-door coupe instead of a five-door liftback sedan? No worries, he more than fixes the Japanese automaker's mistake – this Acura Integra Type S Coupe is also a spiritual heir to the NSX. Frankly, if it looked like this and had the great spirits of the Integra Type S, plus the $51k pricing point, this would sell in spades. Too bad it's just wishful thinking, right?
