Subsequent to the unveiling last November, the Abarth 500e is getting ready to launch in Australia. The company's local branch has announced the pricing details for the two models that will make up the lineup, which are the Turismo and the limited edition Scorpionissima.
The first one to touch down in the Pacific country will be the Abarth 500e Scorpionissima. The model will arrive at dealers at the end of the year, and production will be capped at 219 units. Each one will set buyers back at least AU$60,500 (equal to US$38,799) plus on-road costs. The family will grow to include the 500e Turismo in 2024, which will start at AU$58,900 (US$37,777).
Fiat's performance division has yet to fully detail each model, but it has confirmed that the Abarth 500e debuts two new exterior shades called Acid Green and Poison Blue. These join the Adrenaline Red, Venom Black, and Antidote White, which make up the color palette. The Scorpionissima will set itself apart by featuring one of the two fresh hues exclusively, as well as unique decals applied to the sides.
Additional accents in Acid Green and Poison Blue will be found inside. Here, the automaker mentions the headrests with the embossed scorpion logo, double stitching, a pair of unique sports seats, and the Alcantara upholstery with a dark look. The cockpit will also feature the 10.25-inch touchscreen display, a digital instrument cluster, steel pedals, and a few other goodies that haven't been mentioned in the press release.
As every Abarth (and Fiat) enthusiast likely knows, the sporty electric hatchback of subcompact proportions is powered by a single electric motor. Mounted at the front, it generates 114 kW (155 ps/153 hp) and produces a peak torque of 235 Nm (173 lb-ft). The numbers enable the 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) in 7.0 seconds, or two seconds faster than the Fiat 500e, which is 27 kW (36 hp/37 ps) and 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) less punchy.
Feeding electrons to the motor is a 42 kWh battery pack, which enables a total driving range of up to 252 km (157 miles). According to Abarth, it takes five minutes of charging to give it a driving range of roughly 40 km (25 miles). Plugging it in at a fast charger will juice it up from 0 to 80% in 35 minutes. The battery supports AC and DC charging at a maximum rate of 85 kW, and the car also comes with a CCS Combo Type 2 socket for domestic and public charging.
Other highlights of the car are the unique 18-inch diamond-cut alloys in titanium gray, and the Abarth Sound Generator that replicates the sound produced by an Abarth gasoline engine. More details about the Abarth 500e for Australia will be announced in due course.
