Akrapovic d.d. of Slovenia is a premier exhaust manufacturer founded in 1990 by former motorcycle racer Igor Akrapovic. Four years later, his exhaust systems were used in the WSBK and ESBK. Come 2004, the Slovenian company developed an exhaust system for a Formula 1 team.
The next step was to crack into the world of series-production automobiles, where Akrapovic is currently held in high regard for its high-quality exhausts. The manufacturer's latest system is a limited-run exhaust designed for the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 and its more track-focused brother. Only 50 units will be produced, of which number 10 equips the GT3 RS in the video below.

Pictured at Biesse Racing's dyno testing room in Neive, the Neunelfer sounds closer to a GT3-spec racer instead of a road car. Then again, its exhaust system is a completely different animal from the stock unit. Comprising a titanium muffler and outlets with ceramic matrix composite outer sleeves, the Akrapovic exhaust is 12.2 kilograms lighter (that would be 26.9 pounds in old money).

Akrapovic's dyno testing revealed gains of 6.5 kW (8.7 horsepower) at 2,900 revolutions per minute and 24.1 Nm (17.8 pound-feet) of torque at 2,400 revolutions per minute. Not a big deal over the stock numbers, but remember that the 4.0L flat-six mill of the 911 GT3 RS is sufficiently potent fully stock.

Porsche claims 525 ps and 465 Nm or 518 horsepower and 343 pound-feet. In a rear-drive and rear-engine car that weighs 3,197 pounds (1,450 kilograms), that's a recipe for incredible fun. Unfortunately, the gentleman who filmed the yellow-painted GT3 RS in the video below hasn't shared how many ponies and pound-feet this example of the breed makes with the new exhaust.

The fine print on Akrapovic's website reads that said exhaust doesn't meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use. Also worthy of note, Akrapovic hasn't shared any pricing information. Most retailers charge in the ballpark of 5,000 euros for the Slip-On Race Line titanium exhaust on which the special edition is based, with 5,000 euros converting to $5,400 at current rates.

Peanuts compared to the sticker price of a brand-new GT3 RS, especially if you also consider the humongous dealer markups. The GT3 RS is up there with the most expensive versions of the 911, retailing at $241,300 in the United States of America. By comparison, the Dakar is $222,000 and the S/T is $290,000 (sans destination charge).

Few series-production engines dare rev as high as the naturally aspirated boxer of the GT3 RS. The 6.5-liter Ferrari V12 comes to mind, which tops a spine-tingling 9,500 revolutions per minute in the Daytona SP3 and 812 Competizione. The Lamborghini Revuelto's 6.5-liter V12 can also take 9,500 revs. Higher up the spectrum, the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50 spins to 12,100 rpm.

However, the best is yet to come. A track-only car, the Red Bull RB17 targets a ridiculous 15,000 revolutions per minute from a Formula 1-inspired V10. Similar to Akrapovic's limited-edition titanium exhaust, the RB17 is also limited to 50 units.
